The combination of C Ramchandra and Lata gave Indian film industry so many sweet melodies like Ae mere watan ke logon, Shaam dhale khidki tale, Ye zindgi usi ki hai and Mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai.

C. Ramachandra’s biggest success as a music composer was the 1953 movie Anarkali, and then Navrang another great movie. The songs that he composed for these movies are today legendary. Songs like “Yeh Zindagi Usiki Hai”, “Mujhse Mat Poochh Mere Ishq Main Kya Rakha Hai”, “Mohabbat Aisi Dhadkan Hai”, “Jaag Dard-e-Ishq Jaag” and Adha hai Chandrama, Tu chhupi hai kahan etc.

The highly popular patriotic song “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo”, which was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and penned by poet Pradeep, was a composition of Ramachandra, it was later performed live, by Lata Mangeshkar, in the presence of Jawaharlal Nehru at the Ramlila grounds, in New Delhi on Republic Day, 26 January 1963. It is said Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru became so sentimental that tears rolled down his cheeks.

During working together, Lata and C Ramchandra came close, but their relationship never converted into marriage. Lata claimed she declined C. Ramchandra's marriage proposal, while C. Ramchandra claimed he did the same because he was already wed. Whatever the reality, their love came to an end, and a terrible new chapter began.

Lata stopped working with C Ramchandra. Publicly Lata declared that she refused working with him because of a sound recordist whom she didn’t like but C Ramchandra forced her to work with him. But the gossips said something else. Lata was also furious on C Ramchandra because he came between the marriage of Lata and Jaikishan!!

C Ramchandra was never able to recover as he was mostly working with Lata and once she left, the magic of his music left too.

C Ramachandra similarly provided a memorable musical score accompanying a competition between two dancers whose roles were played by Padmini and Vyjayanthimala for the song Kannum Kannum Kalanthu lyrics penned by Kothamangalam Subbu, sung by P. Leela and Jikki in the Tamil movie Vanjikottai Valiban. He remade the song in Hindi as “Aaja To Aaja” from Raj Tilak written by P. L. Santoshi where Asha Bhosle and Sudha Malhotra rendered their voice.

Ahh thank you Madhu for the excellent write-up on CR and the songs you shared.🤗

For me personally, Anarkali is his best work. Brilliant songs!

I knew about the Lata-CR liaison but wasn't too sure why they fell out. It was also well-known about Lata and Jaikishen. The whole reason why she refused to sing 'Ae mere watan ke logon' and requested that the song be given to Asha instead was because she wasn't on talking terms with CR. Then it was supposed to be a duet with both sisters. There's a whole other story about Asha not turning up for the rehearsal and Lata performing it instead on Kavi Pradeep's behest. Anyways, it became an iconic song.

Here's a song from a lesser known CR album, Baarish. Dev and Nutan have such awesome chemistry!

And another from Amardeep that I love (the beginning refrain sounds like Ye mera deewanapan hai)

Another Teesri Kasam gem on the bail gaadi (my FIL’s favorite ❤️) Conveying a wealth of thoughts and feelings with the most simple of lyrics was Shailendra’s forte!

Good morning everyone!

I am a silent spectator and usually listen to what you post.

Here is one of the famous boat songs.

Kashmir ki Kali, 1964: Shammi Kapoor must hold some record for having had most songs filmed while on some mode of transport—Kashmir ki Kali itself has a bunch of them. This one’s on a shikara on the Dal Lake, with a demure (and increasingly distressed) Sharmila Tagore on her flower-laden shikara, while the extras are all on their own shikaras. Eye candy all the way, and Shammi Kapoor proves you can dance on a narrow boat. You may fall into the water at the end of it all, but you can dance.

Sorry, the the direct link is not working. Please copy and paste it in YouTube to watch it.😒
