I agree with everything that you have mentioned even though I so wish to deny it.

Our society have conditioned a male and a female in a particular way since long and ITV instead of having the power to change is still trying to re-enforce the fact that this conditioning is correct.

Which in my opinion is extremely wrong concept especially in a world where every single day we are fighting for equality in gender ratio in all fields and talking a lot about women empowerment.

Also this portrayal of characters in complete black or white in ITV is very unfortunate since humans are always grey

No one is purely good or purely evil.

Everyone has a mixture of good and bad in them and that’s what makes us humans.

Another concerning issue is the portrayal of romance that is shown in ITV today.

If a ML is forcing or is abusive towards FL, they think it is okay to do so as they are being lovable and possessive about their partner which to be their love.

I have seen my classmates in college idolising the character of Christian Grey from Fifty Shades of Grey and I could never understand why.

Yes, Everything in this world has Pros and cons. Our evolving ITV is just the same. wELL SAID.

Indian Television shows has become an important part of our daily lives, We link our emotions, our happiness, our sorrows, our failures, our achievements etc., with the characters of the serials. The viewer’s connect so strongly with the storyline and the characters that they become the part of their family for a few!!

In fact, Indian viewers have a typical mind set of role of males and females. Serials leave a powerful impact on the mind-set of its viewer.

The ITV serials acquired newer dimensions, greater popularity maximum wider reach, Indian television has always been about female characters, and not in the most empowering way, might I add.

To put it simply, for around two decades now, women have either been portrayed as purely evil😕, or they have been treated like beings that are capable of nothing but sacrifice😲. They only have one instinct--- to put aside their career, love, dreams, and ambitions for a friend, husband, lover, or in most cases, family. Sacrifice!! For whom???

In their bid to build below-average plots around such 'characters,' the male characters have largely been ignored. The male protagonists of popular shows have nothing to contribute to the narrative, which is worse than the manner in which makers treat their female characters.

Be it Ekta Kapoor's show Kumkum Bhagya's male lead character Abhi (played by Shabir Ahluwalia), or more recently, Sony TV's Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi's Dev (portrayed by Shaheer Sheikh). They are not well-written at all, let alone developed.

Our audience is used to rooting for their heroes. Not just our audience, human beings generally look up to people if they have that one defining quality about them. A trait which sets them (the protagonists) apart, something which the viewers can get behind, to adore, or even to hate. But our writers have not been successful in creating such strong characters.

It is high time to present a strong storyline with well defined characters with specific traits to make them unique and lovable. Viewers are longing to see a gentle, subtle plot with strong characters, a message of love, family bonding, and healthy relationships, and no signs of violence.

There was this tv show called - Ek hasina thi which I think had the most definitive description of characters and their traits.

So much so that I actually liked the antagonists of the
show more than the protagonist at one point of time.

Another show that started well was Dhadkan on Sony but they messed up at the end.

Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin was also a really good show, but it was way too stretched up towards the end with a little bit of melo drama, still it was a good show. 😳

I just agree with everything you've mentioned here especially the grey character and "forced romance, which btw is again termed as "angst😃".

Bold) I think it's something psychological you know some people are just drawn to dominating and narcissist people.

In my opinion: People with abandonment issues are more likely to get attracted towards dominating, narcissist, and toxic kinda people, although I could be wrong, but in the end its all about a person's vulnerabilities that plays an important role wrt such matters.

Yes I came to know recently in this forum itself that it is termed as ‘angst’

Imagine the people maintaining Oxford/Cambridge dictionary..

Maybe.

Because my friends gave me to read the book saying it’s the best book they have read so far, automatically making me curious.

And I couldn’t read even 10 pages of the book let alone the whole book.

Just like we like mirch and masala in our food, they want it in their daily dramas😆
