Interesting topic and thanks Madhuri for tagging me. 😊

Coming to the evolution, I am not that aware of how shows used to be in the 70's or 80's and was practically a kid whose first encounter with ITV was through Kumkum and KZK. 🤭

But if I have to compare, TV has definitely regressed and I believe both the makers and audience are responsible for it.

Me and my friends belong to that generation who make fun of each other as well as ourselves for investing our time in Ekta serials growing up and the absurdity of multiple marriages, people coming back from the dead, not to mention invincibility of the leads. 😅

And imagine us talking about those shows in high regards for today's shows are thousand times more regressive and illogical. 😱

There has definitely been some positive shifts, I don't disagree. Earlier we were shows girls in their early 20's dreamt of getting married to a big fat Indian family while today at least in the beginning the girls are shown to be more career oriented. However, this makes up for even weirder storyline when an educated, young woman decide to WIN over a guy as if that's the only thing that matters. 🙄

And the worst part is audiences' reaction. As much as we make fun of it, none of us can deny even the original KZK or KSBKBT did highlight some controversial topics. Unfortunately I can't imagine that in 2023 because fans are now more focused on ACTORS and keep negative trending which makes the makers change the storyline overnight.

I can only urge them to make positive changes while the bitter truth is it's a businesses for them and at the end of the day they'll focus on TRP.

While the audience keep cribbing about the content but then dilute the effect by supporting their favorites' show and then justifying their choice by calling ITV dump and praising international shows. As if you have no accountability for supporting crap.

I have seen decent, even some amazing shows made in recent times. But I doubt how many people here have actively supported a show like P.O.W. here. 🙄

Unless or until audience stop their hypocrisy, I doubt only makers will ever be able to bring any positive change.

Wait, I thought the "angst" label meant that the story would have a prevailing mood of sadness, obstacles, and suffering! Angst would be similar to the mono no aware of Genji Monogatari, I thought.

Is it really code for sexist fantasies like Gominī from Daśakumāracarita, Patient Griselda from Decameron, and so forth?

When I noticed an author on Wattpad saying that she writes erotica and "aghast," I thought it was just a funny typo, but maybe "aghast" is a better label for the Eliza-where-are-my-slippers stories inspired by this fandom.

Angst is something different in tv shows and fanfics lol

Sometimes the ML chases someone else and that is also called as Angst🤓

The long intense stares are also referred as angstamongst other nonsense things.

Well said Neha, you defined it beautifully. 🤗

What is angst in fanfic is different from normal dictionary meaning.

It generally signifies that the story will be primarily dramatic in nature, rather than comedic or light-hearted, and that characters may suffer mental or physical anguish during the course of the story. These works can be very dark, but not all angsty fan works are dark fiction.

Angst is a particular genre of fan fiction.

You can’t rely on the dictionary definition of angst: a feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one about the human condition or the state of the world in general.

In fanfiction, angst means a story in which one or more characters are experiencing not simply anxiety, but terrible tragedy. Perhaps a character is ill, and may be dying and all around him (or her) are grieving. Or perhaps a romantic or familial relationship is on the rocks. Perhaps a character has been unjustly accused of some terrible act.

But most of the time, whatever the angsty situation is, it is usually resolved for the better in the end. The exception might be if a character dies. But usually if that happens, they die in an uplifting manner.

Most angst stories are full of misery, but end well, and often abruptly.

Yes, absolutely right on...this is what the general idea is -- not what the some think.

For most of them "the love-hate relationship between the leads is angst" and believe me half of that population is under 25 or something like that.

The ill-treatment of the FL by ML is also termed as "Angst"

I remember one time I had this conversation with someone on a particular fanfic website about how dark romance fiction is different than the one that particular individual had written, which btw was conflicting--- I was called an "Aunty" coz I didn't know how to digest the ridiculous nonsense in the name of so-called angst and dark romance, which is ironic coz it's wasn't either one of those things😃

Me saying-- little knowledge very dangerous 👍🏼👍🏼🤡

It's dangerous how some perceive the absolute nonsense as something like "ohh, well, he/she loves her/him, so it's okay to mistreat one another" 🤗🤓

For them angst means

ML insulting and manhandling women

ML can do anything in name of angst, can keep insulting FL and others, and keep FL last but if FL starts to think about herself and isn't going behind ML and standing on her stance she is the worst and selfish.

I have no idea what "general devar-bhabhi and gossip concept" means. Could we start the discussion with you explaining it to me?

I think most of the tv audience doesn’t even watch them properly lol coz that’s the exact time people do homework or talk over tea and snacks lol or have dinner 🤣🤣🤣🤣 with their TV on lol we’re the only ones who watch it and analyse it lol🤣🤣 i mean the online audience 🤪

But its obvious that they enjoy the kitchen politics and bahu/wife being ill treated🤔 those episodes get highest ratings
