Hey lovelies!
Hope you all are doing good. It's weekend and I am back with another part for you all. This is a continuation of the OS. So, here we go:
Part-2
Viaan Raghuwanshi was going crazy, that was what could sum up his behaviour precisely since the last few days, or should we say, since the fateful night. Katha was becoming more and more of a mystery to him with every new thing he was getting to know about her these days. Her actions, attitude, and every little thing about her left him puzzled. He was getting drawn to her without any effort, unconsciously. He did plan to hate her and stay away from her. But the myriad of emotions that seemed to invade him was not at all kin to that of resentment.
So many questions plagued his mind, yet there was not even a single one he had found the answer for, and the biggest riddle for him was: "what did she need that money for". When she arrived late for the meeting the next day, and he snarkily commented that she should hire a secretary for herself now that she had crores with her, she had straight up handed him her resignation letter, leaving him speechless. She had accused him of breaking the conditions of their deal which was intolerable for her. Not only that, she had even returned him eighty-three thousand, saying that the agreement was for him to pay her only one crore, two lac and seventeen thousand and not a penny more.
What was this girl? She agreed to sleep with him for money, didn't even glance back at him once before leaving and then was returning him eight three thousand that didn't even hold any value in front of that one crore. If she could accept that large amount, why return him the extra eighty-three thousand? She certainly did know how to keep his head reeling with thoughts of her. As if this was not sufficient, from a third person, he got to know that she had blatantly refused their rival company: Pyramid's offer of one crore in exchange for the Dubai Heritage Project designs. Since then, his mind has been running miles trying to decipher her actions.
She could have conveniently accepted the deal by Pyramid, isn't it, if she only wanted money. But instead, she rejected it, saying that she was doing so on behalf of entire Earthcon. From all her actions, she came out to be loyal, honest and righteous, then why did she agree to his proposal? Why did she need that one crore? No! One crore, two lac, seventeen thousand to be precise. Was she in some problem, or probably, in debt? Or maybe, someone was blackmailing her? The mere thought that she might be in trouble made him feel protective of her, strange as it might be, but he couldn't help it.
Wasn't it just two days back only that she had brought her pet to the office, "Lollipop". And then, upon querying, he found out that she had adopted a stray puppy. And since no one was there to take care of him at home, she had brought him to the office. That only raised more questions in his mind. Was she living alone? What about her parents? How about siblings? Was she lonely like him? But it also brought one more trait of hers forward. She was caring and empathetic, even towards animals. And all these just managed to pull him more towards her.
He wanted to be closer to her and yearned to see her in front of him all the time. That was part of the reason that yesterday, he had changed the project deadline from seven days to just two. He expected her to be angry, come and fight with him on how unfair he was being. But to his surprise, she just accepted his challenge head-on. It was Ehsan, in her stead, who came to him, saying that he was putting too much pressure on Katha and it was unjust for her. "Viaan, you can't keep her in the office all the time", he had remarked. But seeing his best friend speak so much in favour of Katha instigated him to ask the dreaded question, "Do you like her?"
"Yes, Maybe I do like her", came a somewhat spontaneous yet hesitant reply. And the answer effectively managed to have its effect. It can't be true. Why her? He looked at Ehsan in disbelief. "Do you have any problem with that?" he found it difficult to voice his answer honestly to Ehsan's question. Yes, he did have a problem. Why? He, himself, was not very clear on the reason for that. So, instead, he chose to defend himself, saying that the tight deadline and pressure were not an exception for her but for the entire team, him included.
But if he was being true to himself, it was also to get an opportunity to talk to her. Ask her why she rejected the offer from Pyramid but accepted his. But unfortunately for him, since yesterday, he didn't get even a single such chance. She would smile at others and be her comfortable self. But, when he would try to approach her, she would recoil as if his proximity, his touch repulsed her and to say that it hurt would be an understatement, especially when he would find her laughing at Ehsan's silly jokes. But at least she laughed. That itself was enough to bring a smile to his face. He looked at his watch, he still had one more day before the deadline, and he needed to find ways to get some answers from her.
Hope you all liked it. Please do leave your feedback, it would mean a lot ❤️
