but this consent is forced by herself so she is blackmailed by circumstances. According to ur logic, if she says no to ons n let her son die, then would she be murderer? Becoz that would be also her choice.
she could have gone back to her in-laws, cried and wept and refused to leave till they relented. the way you see it, won't that have been better than one night stand where she was forced into it??
then in-laws would have demanded she give up the child if they are going to spend. she walks away. 20 year leap, the child grows up angry and comes across the mother and finds out she married another husband and raised his children and was a fantastic stepmother. cue anger, frustration and drama -- that is a typical plot trope you find in many asian dramas. the background arc to the mother who abandons her child and then tells the adult child off when they question her. I have lost count the number of times I have seen something like that they are all smushed together in memory.
as jalalrocks and hahahehe have summed up perfectly, katha like many women (as well as men) are owning their choices and that includes those who work as escorts or take questionable paths in life. it is not required we agree with them or that we support their choices. what we are saying is that making uncomfortable choice because your situation sucks does not necessarily make you a victim.
we all agree that viaan is an idiot who made an indecent offer. there is no argument on that there. the nuance is how katha reacts to it and how she sees her situation.
if you want to see it extreme way, then you are going to go bonkers when she falls madly in love with this man. this is a passionate love story in the original because the two characters own their choices -- stupid, bad and questionable -- and treat each other as adults who start their journey together because of one night. how does that make sense if she is a victim or sees herself as a victim? no, she falls in love with him because she owns the choices she makes.
I wondered if the desi version will go there but they are showing katha to be a strong independent woman who is not backing down from the choices she makes and neither does she want a pity party. so we are getting 100% grey story.
the beauty of a grey story is that you don't have to like the characters or agree with their choices. instead, you sit back and watch with popcorn because it is the story that moves. then you have fun. at least that is what I do. 🤷
