Mrunal Thakur issues strong warning against AI deepfakes, says misuse of her identity will invite legal action

Artificial intelligence has become a powerful tool, but its growing misuse has become a major concern for celebrities. Actor Mrunal Thakur is the latest public figure to speak out after AI-generated deepfake videos and images using her identity began circulating online. Disturbed by the misuse of her likeness, the actor took to Instagram Stories to issue a firm warning, making it clear that such content is not only unethical but also illegal.

Without naming any individual or account, Mrunal shared a strongly worded statement on her Instagram Stories, addressing those responsible for creating and circulating manipulated content featuring her. She urged people to immediately stop using her image and identity without her permission.

In her statement, the actress wrote, "Creating or sharing deepfake content using my likeness is illegal and unacceptable. Consider this your formal notice to stop immediately. Any further misuse of my identity will result in legal action."

Her message served as both an appeal and a legal warning, highlighting the serious consequences of spreading AI-generated content that falsely represents an individual.

Deepfake Misuse Continues To Trouble The Film Industry

Mrunal's reaction comes at a time when AI-generated deepfakes have become an increasing problem across the entertainment industry. With advanced AI tools becoming easily accessible, manipulated videos and images of celebrities are appearing online more frequently, often without their knowledge or consent.

Several Bollywood stars have already approached the courts to safeguard their personality rights, including their image, voice and digital identity. Actors such as Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Kartik Aaryan and Suniel Shetty have all taken legal measures against the unauthorised use of AI-generated content featuring them.

Mrunal Focuses On Work Amid The Controversy

While addressing the issue firmly, Mrunal continues to remain busy on the professional front. Following Dacoit and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, she is currently working on Raaka, an ambitious action drama directed by Atlee Kumar.

The film features an ensemble cast including Allu Arjun, Deepika Padukone and Rashmika Mandanna. Although the makers are yet to announce an official release date, reports suggest the film is targeting a December 2027 release. It is also said to feature two parallel timelines, with one set in the Puranic or Vedic era and the other unfolding in the present day.
