Tina Dutta offended by “Dear”

Few episodes back Tina flipped when Shiv referred to her a “Dear”! Had me grinning as it’s what annoys me too. In India many people refer to strangers and randomly call someone “Dear”. “Dear listen” “Dear no you can’t do this” “Dear please do this”

While it may not be exactly a rude thing to do but yes it sounds very stupid to call people you don’t find “Dear” as Dear” ! So dear is reserved for people you are genuinely fond of and very close to. Not thrown around casually! 😊

P.S - I support Tina in throwing a hissy fit over “Dear” from someone who is not a friend and certainly not Dear to her. 🤪

Personal choice ki baat nahin hai. English is not everyone’s strong suit. In English speaking countries people don’t address random people as “Dear” as it’s just not done. It’s kinda patronising thing to do.

Toh agar kisi ki English strong hoti hai unko accha nahin lagta ki ajneebi unko iss “Dear” shabd say bulaye. Jiski English week hai unko pharak nahin padta.

@ Bold : Absolutely untrue

I have studied from a catholic convent school. Hv been speaking english since my education started. Even in my professional space and wid my frnds we talk in english. Now I might not be a professor in english but I consider my english strong enough.

But I dnt feel offended by the word "dear" when I am addressed by dt and I myself use it very often in day to day use.

So NO ITS NOT ABOUT YOUR COMMAND ON ENGLISH .

Whether or not ....you think its a personal choice or not....dts upto you.

But this english speaking and non english speaking logic is just absurd.

Also.......just because something is considered a norm in certain english speaking countries....doesnt make it a rule everywhere.

It is simple. It's about context. It's about interpersonal relations.

Do I mind being addressed as dear by my parents, friends, partner or an elderly relative or even a cousin...no.

But if a manager at work or a colleague calls me that...A BIG NO.

It's patronizing and unprofessional. Especially as a woman, we are mansplained to by using words like "dear", "sweetheart", "darling", etc,.

And if Shiv didn't use it in an offensive way, why was he so offended when Tina talked about his mom/sis in that context...typical doglapan of a patriarchal male, lol.

Just one thing to keep in mind here. The choice on how to react will always be with the person who receives and not person who says.

P..s i am just adding to your comment, not disagreeing to the point you are making

Funny how ppl are debating how 'dear' word maybe deemed offending in certain circumstances when the fact remains, Tina was just being a sour puss over captaincy for Shiv choosing Nimmo over her. Tina was just looking for an opportunity to vent her frustrations out at Shiv, simple 🤷‍♂️
