I don't live in India so I did find it odd initially when my cousins/online friends of my age from India would call me "dear". The only people who have called me "dear" were older people (grandparent age) and teachers and it was out of fondness.

When I hear "dear" from people my age and especially men (even slightly older men) who are my colleagues/classmates, it is usually used in a condescending way - this goes in the same group with sweetie/sweetheart/honey. I think it is a cultural thing and should be looked at in what context it's being used in and what the intentions are

Point no 2 - Keeping Tina out of the topic and just focusing on the word “Dear”… In English speaking countries using “Dear” in written communication is normal but in verbal lingo used normally for kids or strictly for someone you are close to( not randomly)….the same goes for Hindi equivalent “Priyah” by and large

Point no 3 - How you would like to be addressed in a civil conversation is your prerogative.Even before calling someone who is not close/known to me by first name in a verbal convo , I seek permission .

Sallu stopped Upen from calling him “Bhai” midway through the season because of Upen’s behaviour.Sajid politely told Saundarya not to call him Sajid and use SK instead, because obviously she hasn’t played marbles with him …. In Shiv’s case he repeatedly called Tina by the word even after she told him he has lost the moral right to call her that……forcing something on is not cool ….he ended up looking like sadak chap mawalli …. In conclusion, the usage of “ Dear” is incidental in this case, it’s the behaviour that mattered

Point no 4 - Though I am cool with first name, I personally find the usage of word “Dear” repulsive when it is some random stranger or an acquaintance at the other end …. I would tell the person to STFU .., it’s my life, my call

Wassup Mado? Long time!

It's always good to see purane Paapis still around on the gaff alive and kicking .🙌

I come here and see my thread got locked lol...so thought will catch up with you on here.

OT- This is based solely on my own personal experience-Where I come from, words like dear, darling, babe etc is actually common lingo, especially with the cockney folk.

If you go into any local cafe, supermarket or say a market stall,it's very common to get -

"How can i help you dear"

"Oh,what can I do for you you darling"

" What can I get you babe" and so on

It's common lingo of urban culture up these ends.Actually, forget urban culture of today,it's always been a common lingo like forever down my ends.

Unless these terms are being used as unwanted sexual advances in a lecherous manner, then one would get the gist tho, wouldn't they?!

At the end of the day,it boils down to personal choice. We don't all roll the same way.

And like they say,one man's trash is another man's treasure.

In past couple of days ,I've come across some bizarre interpretations of Shiv's 'dear ,which got likened to things like eve-teasing and even a means to want to get into a woman's pants for that matter LOL

Anyways,I will say no more on this hahaha ...😆

Yes you are right! Using endearments especially in Medical Facilities is very commonly used for elderly’s. How they r used are getting questionable now. What Shiv was doing is using it loosely with a sarcastic grin. He has used an endearment with Priyanka too and she immediately asked him to never repeat it and Ankit told him to draw a line. It was in LF..

In my earlier post I mentioned that the word "Dear" is irrelevant in the larger context of the issue......the moot point is, Tina categorically told him not you use the word after backstabbing her....... and yet he persisted with the word...... and that behaviour is not cool .

Bold - It didn't look like a banter to me , given the connotation of the word it appeared kind off sleazy when he kept repeating..... and if it was indeed innocuous then he wouldn't have been offended when Tina told him to call his mother by that word.....unless his mother is not dear to him.

On the word 'Dear"......it may be a used in exceptional pockets but I haven't seen the word being institutionalised in english speaking world........like "Mate" is institutionalised down under ...... and mate means friends.

As for Shiv, he is an obnoxious weed ......an amalgamation of Archana & Priyanka.......speaking crap like Archana & interfering in all issues like Priyanka.....and off late reduced to Nimrit's spokesperson cum henchman.

It can sound pretty creepy to some and I wouldn't blame her if she reacted too strongly to being called 'Dear'.
