I was wondering what TM must be feeling as this turned into chatting thread but again I have a habit of replying to people whenever they ask me questions so I ended up answering😆.. But I never thought/think it is flirting lol😆
waise bhi you wanna be single i saw in the other topic, so what's the point in flirting 🥺
Dil se is a haunting film and you understand it more if you have lived in an insurgent infected zone.
Or know how human rights are violated which make innocents also take another path...
Not everyone can grasp Dil se though. It is a difficult and complex subject.
I had no problem at all to grasp everything Mani wanted to express with this movie although - fortunately - I never had to live such traumata.
I loved the deepness of the subject and the poetry, both expressed in a very intense way (visually, musically and performance-wise)
I think you appreciate Dil se, Earth, Haider, Dhokha, Roja, Maachis, Satya, Vaastav, Chakravyuh type films more if you have read or known how innocents get trapped or common man is sandwiched in power games of politicians, forces. You understand Gadar, Dev, Firaaq, Amu, Mr and Mrs Iyer, Bombay, Zakhm, Parzania, Dharm etc more if you or your family knew first-hand what pogroms are...
Somehow being aware of that history teaches you a lot and makes you empathise with characters in a different way. Like other viewer cannot grasp. Then you realise how deep scenes were and what was the meaning and significance.
It is like you can read that film like a book and not just watch it and you understand even silences and psyche of character.
I just meant to say not everyone can grasp Dil Se. Perhaps this is why it flopped. I find it a courageous role for Manisha to take up.
Books and Films were - since myfirst book and first movie at 6 - always a tool to learn about mankind and all kind of relations. I did not have to live any violence, power plays and crimes to emphazise what others may have felt or going through.
Many of the movies you cited, I've watched. They told me nothing new about mankind but they made me learn about specific situations in India.
I'm conscious of (almost) everything human beings can do to other human beings for whatever they use as reasoning but all the negative which is done/said/written cannot kill the positive that also exists.
I watched Dil se movie yesterday. Without subtitles I may not understand the Hindi version fully. So I watched Telugu dubbed version available in YouTube. I really didn't understand the movie fully. I have many doubts. I think i should watch it again to understand the movie better. I really didn't understand whether heroine is from Assam or some other place or some other country cuz in Telugu dubbed version I don't remember they mentioning her place in childhood where she faced trauma. . She was explaining to hero in the climax about what happens in neglected or oppressed parts in the country. But I don't remember she mentioning any place.
Also I didn't get her logic in the climax. If she bomb herself to kill their enemies, other innocent people also die not only her enemies. So I couldn't connect with her character when she was explaining her reason to hero in climax. I could sympathize with her trauma in her childhood , I think after facing such cruel trauma at such young age she became indifferent to trauma of other innocent people who might get killed in the event. Or I think she feels she can kill other innocent people too cuz they voted for such leaders? I don't know. Also I couldn't understand the climax.. So hero stopped heroine from reaching the event and get killed along with her to save the country from her?
I have to add that Manisha was fab.Without much dialogues she could convey so many range of emotions with her eyes and expressions. Her character was apathetic, cold hearted, with human emotions surface from time to time especially in some scenes in dessert and in climax. she could do that nuances very well.. She looked too beautiful and natural with almost no make up.
Thanks for the details :) So all the people in the event got killed along with the hero and heroine ?

No, not all ppl die. You can see they go to a place where there was no one. The last shot is when they hugged each other tightly, that blast scene doesn't have any crowd, so it is them only who are shown affected from blast.

Oh then thanks to the small mercies atleast they didn't show everyone getting killed in the event in the climax along with them, otherwise I would hate the climax, story and the movie. Eventhough I couldn't connect with hero's obsessive love for her even after knowing she used him, I still appreciate the acting of leads, Maniratnam's direction, engaging screen play, atleast it was not boring and fab music and locations.. I can see why people say it is masterpiece.
I’m pretty sure they hooking up even now, but they don’t show it to the world...
If you had to pick just one Bollywood movie as your all-time favorite, which one would it be? And what makes it so special for you?
I am not really crazy about her, but I give credit where it is due. This song was meant for Miss Rai, but Deepika looked graceful and carried it...
