I am not bashing Jaya for her own decisions and I do think she was hopelessly in love with Amitabh and she used to fight with even stars like Rajesh Khanna for him, fought media for him and used her FTII links to introduce struggler Amitabh to filmmakers and writers and worked with him when no one else did.

She has done it all for him and he owes her a lot.

I only criticise Amitabh for what he said or did. Or his misogynist behaviour and statements in general.

IDK why you or other users assume I am bashing Jaya.

Women tolerate a lot of shit even today in modern era and are bullied since young age and often give up or yield even in front of own parents and are unable to study or work as per own choice.

I did not blame Jaya. I do praise Dimple for her guts to leave Kaka. But it does not mean I put down Jaya.

I dislike Jaya for her current misogyny and behaviour for sure though be it sexist statements on Shweta or Ash or role of women and wives in general. She can keep her views to herself.

I prefer Waheeda better who asks girls to be strong and avoids putting forth her era views in media. Or even Hema who avoids such topics altogether and is more diplomatic in public.

I do not like Bachchans flaunting their regressive, male chauvinist, patriarchal, sexist tripe in talk shows, interviews or social media and other public fora even till date.

I hope I am clear.

Thanks for clarifying. Some of your earlier posts made it appear like you were judging or criticizing Jaya for not leaving a bad marriage. I apologize for having assumed incorrectly. As long as you don't hold women responsible for being in unfulfilling marriages.

Forget marriage. I know why women and girls are helpless and stuck in even parental homes, not just marriages.

I know how families, society, neighbours gang up against woman and bully her. Even whole society, pop culture, religions, media, extended families are patriarchal and judge, threaten or bully women all time.

The pressure can make strongest willed girls and women crumble even unknowingly. One does not realise how much their subconscious mind has been affected. They also feel fear seeing fate of women who defy the 'norm' and perhaps do not want to face same threats of slander, social isolation, abuse etc., that women are subjected to, even till date, if they dare to remain single, unmarried or get divorce or take a stand contrary to expectation of patriarchal society.

I am glad you clarified to me as well if you found my posts blaming Jaya even though I did not intend to.

I am not even bashing AB sr for this statement only but hate him for his lies that he never stopped Jaya from working. He is one of those wily types who discriminate openly and pressurise women and then claim women themselves chose to not do or do what they did/did not.

I hate this pretense that most men and families put up when they claim they did not stop wife or do not discriminate between males and female members of family when they deffo do. Thanks for civil exchange though.

I thought so.

He seems to be okay with KKK but he made Amrita go underground after marriage and kids.

I feel surprised when Sharmila talks of how her working made Saif respect working women. If he indeed respected working women then why he stopped Amrita from working or disliked her working after divorce?

Yes it's much easier for men and Yes society is patriarchal

And I was not comparing 70s Jaya to 90s Hillary

It was a general statement that some women even in more liberal societies stick to their cheating husbands for some reason other than stability, kids, culture etc

In Hillary's case it was for her poltical career

(And the 90s Monics Lewinsky affair was not the first time he cheated on her or the last, as far as I know even in 2007 he had an affair, not a fling, a serious relationship, but I digress)

Even now divorce is stigma in India.

Must be more so in 70s. Dimple got lot of flak for leaving Rajesh though she legally did not divorce him. Rekha was made national vamp and blamed for suicide of husband. How can one assume Jaya felt no emotional or social or cultural or family pressure or did not think of reputation and kids?

Anyway man trapped in bad marriage has lot more options and can remain out of house or away or still have lot of affairs. Something that Big B did and his wife still tolerated it or the way Neetu tolerated affairs of Rishi. How many abla men are trapped in bad marriage and cannot give divorce?

Now her daughter is seperated from her husband but hasn't divorced... Is it due to pressure from the family?

btw Neetu Singh and Rishi were seperated for a while during the early 2000s, looked like they too were headed for divorce, don't know when they got back together

Dimple is a pioneer in that aspect, became succesful actress as a separatee and a motehr of two 👍🏼

She also had(s) a long standing affair with a married man... But that's another topic

I think of course it is reputation and wealth reasons or legal reasons (property) or for sake of kids that Shweta has still not legally divorced Nikhil.

Rajinikanth's daughters got lot of flak for divorce and many trolls bashed him online too claiming he taught nothing to his daughters or bashing them for being burden on dad at his old age.

His one daughter was trolled for remarriage too and trolls barked hope she 'adjusts this time and learns her lesson from past'.

Bachchans are too serious about image, wealth and property to encourage SBN to divorce Nikhil.

Dimple also smartly fought over Kaka's property and came to claim it asserting legal right as wife and kicked out his live in partner from his bungalow who was hoping to claim his property after his death.

South is more conservative and more sexist... Why do so many young starlets commit suicide there?

I digress again

Bold - That's good

But he left nothing to her and everything to his daughters, I heard...

Is that true?

I know there was lot of drama over property of Kaka with Dimple and daughters on one side and the live in partner on other.

I have not followed it up enough to know who got property and who did he leave it to or not.

People love to give a lecture about “adjustment and compromise”, more so to girls (boys get it too but it’s on a much smaller scale)

Marriage is also dealt like something u just have to do …they say it’s entirely your choice, sure …but u will be pestered about it, treated differently for the lack of it , pitied , have assumptions made about u and rumours spread …until u throw the towel in and agree to someone u may or may not even fully like ….after which it’s entirely your problem ofcourse and just have to “adjust and compromise”

Singlehood is treated like plague and most married couples don’t wanna go back to it for that reason…
