Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding brought together several well known names from the entertainment industry. However, one absence that caught fans' attention was that of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Their decision to skip both the wedding and the rehearsal dinner quickly sparked fresh discussion online, especially amid ongoing reports about Lively's friendship with Swift.
According to PEOPLE, the couple did not attend the July 3 wedding at New York's Madison Square Garden or the celebrations held a day earlier. Instead, they reportedly travelled to Lake Placid, New York, where their six year old daughter Betty was participating in a horse show. TMZ shared photographs showing the couple cheering for their daughter during the competition.
Blake and Ryan are parents to four children, James, Inez, Betty and Olin. Reports suggested that supporting their daughter during the event took priority over attending one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year.
Their absence has also renewed interest in reports surrounding Lively's friendship with Taylor Swift. The two have shared a close bond over the years, with Swift revealing in 2024 that she is the godmother to Lively's children. The singer has also included the names of Blake and Ryan's children in some of her songs.
In recent months, however, several reports have claimed that the friendship has become strained following Lively's legal dispute with her It Ends With Us co star Justin Baldoni. PEOPLE previously reported that the two had been "taking some space" after Swift received a subpoena from Baldoni's legal team. Another source later claimed they were no longer speaking. A separate report also suggested Swift wanted to distance herself after private text messages became part of the legal proceedings.
Despite the speculation, the wedding featured several celebrity guests, including Adam Sandler, Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Dakota Johnson, Ed Sheeran and Hugh Grant. The couple also chose a different approach by not having bridesmaids or groomsmen, with Austin Swift serving as Taylor's Man of Honor and Jason Kelce standing beside his brother as Best Man.
