The film is trending well in Hindi also. It was sold in a cheap price with only 500 screens. Pretty good!

PS 2 will be massive. This is going the Bahubali way.

If it was marketed and promoted better, and a 5-10 minute introduction was added to the characters, it would have done amazing numbers in Hindi as well.

I don't know why the team let go of such a massive market. Half of Bahubali 2's collections came from Hindi version alone.

It didn't really work in Hindi and Telugu, the two big key markets. But I don't blame the content for it, but the marketing.

Well, PS1 should release on OTT in 2-3 months. Hopefully the Hindi Telugu audiences watch it then and they would want to watch PS2 in theatres. That's the only way I see this going the Bahubali way.

I meant the traction BB got. This is similar.

Collection wise it’s going to be very tough because Tamil isn’t as big as Telugu and the Hindi belt did not do great no’s . Poor marketing is definitely to blame. I don’t think Mani was personally interested in catering to the Hindi belt . But for the sake of the film that he so painstakingly made he should put in an effort. Start promotions at least 15-20 days before release. Maybe even do international tours.

I don’t nit pick because it’s a personal choice tbh but she used to how she will never resort to anything artificial ever in some of her interviews and said she loved her natural skin Color.
Ash was looking white in some scenes too.

Agree about camera work. It was very shaky in certain scenes. That’s never happened in a MR film.

saw this interesting painting in this context of chola king visiting the temple and its recreation, note their skin color 😆

i think second part will do similar, it will not scale

because most ppl in other languages did not follow the movie or characters, names itself were complex, unless you are familiar with the book or some tamil history it is tough

not just marketing but even the film does not provide context or introducton, example a simple map showing where the kingdoms are, who are they, it can be through narrative devices too,

like i did nor realise the pandyas were those tribals

why is ponniyin selvan so important, tamil ppl know, but others dont

like ppl who came with me were asking if vikram is ponniyin selvan because he is the hero😆

most do not know that arulzhmoli and ps are same or he is raja raja chola which is why the story is so interesting

it is like making of the gandhi, if you dont know who gandhi became why will you will be interested in his journey or beginning

Due to positive word of mouth, PS-1 picked up well over the weekend and raked 2.70 crores on Saturday and 3.40 crores on Sunday. After 3 days, the film has registered a total collection of 8.10 crores nett in the Hindi circuits from around 1000 screens.

I for one think they made a good decision. The film would have no way appealed to the mass audience in the non-tamil regions esp when they have no idea what the books are about. By over promoting and increasing expectations it would just gotten negative responses. By releasing it on a smaller scale it's reaching and being liked by the city going/class audience more. They have also sold the Hindi at a very low price, it should be profitable in a week

This make sense for not promoting in other languages

As you said people might not have understand and it might have backfired ... Good point
