They did have LOT of chemistry and the way Reema was blushing when Alok sang about her, was something else. She had more chemistry with him than Anupam who was playing her husband in that film. I am not surprised this song goes viral and has all sorts of edits and spin offs about it.

Yes and her poster in that saree was in every parlour, cloth store in 90s. Salman's was also there with white suit in men's showrooms.

Other films never had that impact in real life. HAHK introduced ladies sangeets and godh bharai functions even in regions where these rituals did not exist. And whole idea of opulent weddings and elaborate family functions and dances. Serials till date are inspired by Barjatya films like HAHK, HSSH.

The man single handedly became most significant pop culture defining figure after Salim Javed and inspired likes of Adi Chopra and K Jo, Ekta Kapoor, Rajan Shahi etc too.

There was a welcome poster with Madhuri's look from green lehenga from that joote de do paise le lo song from HAHK which had become famous at dhabas and college hostels. Madhuri is holding thaali in that look and ready to welcome guests.

That poster and poster of MD from red suit look from painting scene with Salman were also popular at beauty parlours even till mid 2000s.

I ALWAYS wish SO SO MUCH that I would have been in India at the time of release of Hum aapke hain kaun to see its craze from my own eyes, to get the struggle to have its tickets, and enjoy the movie with live audience in a theatre :(

sadly I always saw it over VHS first and than DVDs and Tvs :(

Never been to India so far as well, ever

HAHK's TV premiere was biggest thing in 90s after Sholay TV premiere. Sony bagged its rights and telecast it as Diwali special somewhere in mid 90s. People actually left Diwali celebrations earlier to see the film post 8 PM on TV when it first aired on TV and saw it with whole family.

Total madness. I remember every kid at school used to sing its songs or perform to its songs. Girls specifically loved this film a lot. Elders also loved it as a clean film with family values. Finally the only film where no one had to change channel or leave room or switch off TV.

I believe the madness going by the craze it generated in its theatrical release, not surprised

I heard few theaters used to show 12 songs while others 2 additional songs (chocolatelime juice, mujh se juda ho kar and also few deleted portions of DHIK TANA song where Madhuri playing cricket in brown saari, both families cooking and eating on dining table and also flirt between sahila chaddha and her admirer..lol)

Its a work of genius to make a film THAT ENTERTAINING and GRIPPING without even a solid storyline.

people can call it a shaadi ka video, but if films were that much easier to be made and gave them a block buster status, everyone would have made another HAHK.

Treatment and execution of a movie is a VEWRY TRICKY and TOUGHEST part.

HAHK deserves all accolades.

I heard young girls used to wear that purple saari and green dress in real life shaadis

Yeah a lot. They would wear whatever MD wore in that film be it Red frock from Yeh Mausam ka jadoo or green lehenga from joote do song or mustard suit from Maai ni maai song. Madhuri's parandi, gajra, jewellery, hair style all became a rage and she got all new fan following among girls, kids and family audience. Even ones who hated her for vulgar songs in Khalnayak and Beta like Choli ke peeche kya hai, began liking her as some ideal daughter, dream girl, sister, friend from that film.

Pomeranian dog became most popular breed of pet dogs after that film and remained so for a decade thanks to Tuffy.

Barjatya was a smart guy to include dream values of Indians such as loving families and treating pets and maid as family, gloss, grandeur and happy relations between samdhis without egos or dowry or domestic violence or property clashes unlike past films where ladkiwale were always shown as below ladkewale and begging for safety of daughter. HAHK has no preachy lectures on marriage or family like HSSH and Vivah either. Just happy people doing happy rituals and festivities or happy trips and gatherings together. Good looking cast and family values.

Something that makes people happy.

No generation gaps either. Innocent flirting within family circles and functions.

It is not just a marriage video. But clean stuff and just a happy film which may reflect dreams of most average Indians' idealised version of own culture.

But it is clear Madhuri is one of most beautiful faces to have hit Indian cine screen and Kajol never had any looks to talk of. Kajol has girl next door appeal but no looks or beauty at al, no matter how one spins it. She is known for natural or bindaas acting in big budget films with Khans. She would have had no career if she was not a nepo kid getting big budget films on a platter. Madhuri has been compared to iconic beauties like Suchitra Sen and Madhubala in past. Kajol figures nowhere in looks discussions even after skin lightening and makeover. She looked her worst in early 90s tbh.

Salman is anyday more handsome than SRK ever was or ever will be. He has twice been voted among most handsome men in the world by global edition of People magazine. And is indeed one of most handsome actors in history of Indian cinema and his looks were at peak in 90s.

So these words like charm etc do not take away from the fact that Salman is way more handsome and eye candy material than SRK ever was.

Salman is more charismatic onscreen which is why only he can make trash like Dabanng or Ready work.

I stand by the fact that HAHK has way better eye candy leads and beautiful onscreen hero and heroine jodi compared to DDLJ.

Salman and MD was like a casting coup with most beautiful male and female faces of that time coming together kind of like Dharmendra and Hema Malini earlier or Hrithik and Ash in 2006.

Let's agree to disagree. SRK and Kajol are NO match to Salman and Madhuri in terms of looks and Kajol especially is nowhere in comparison to Madhuri in acting, beauty, grace, voice modulation, screen presence, charisma, dance and all rounder abilities as a performer. Even painters like MF Hussain went obsessed with Madhuri and her portrayal of stages of girlhood to womanhood in HAHK and her sarees, lehengas, looks became huge in 90s with her poster everywhere at all dress stores and beauty parlours. Nothing of that sort for Kajol in DDLJ. Heck. Even Amrish Puri as strict dad or that cowbell and train are more popular than Kajol in DDLJ. DDLJ belongs more to SRK and Amrish and Kajol hardly had imposing screen presence or role as MD had in HAHK.

There is NO visual delight or eye candy in DDLJ except foreign locations. Unlike HAHK which needed no foreign locations since its leads itself were visual delight.

So again, let us agree to disagree on the eye candy part. Beauty is either there or not. It is like Lycra tagline - you either have it or you don't. And SRK and Kajol never had it in terms of looks. Nor are they famous for looks. It's same as Amitabh was never as handsome as Dharam or Vinod. Facts. Cold hard facts.

I never DISAGREED with your opinion or Salman and Madhuri looks, so I do not understand what this rant means.🤪 Madz was phenomenal and ruled the 90s and so did Salman, along with SRK.

Ranting and discarding everything about SRK and Kajol, from looks, acting etc etc. wouldn't make your opinions a "hard cold fact".

People watch films for multiple reasons, like.. story, songs, locations, overall entertainment etc etc and not just for "EYE CANDIES". Neither this topic is about which film had better looking leads.

You are the one who is going WAY OFF-TRACK by talking abouyt nepotism and Kajol's skin-lightining surgery. Perhaps you're too naive to think that Madz or other actresses have never used Botox or any other procedure in their career. Every BW actor/actress is into that today, and these are not just rumors.smiley39

As far as relatabilty is concerned, I'm sure many dark-skinned or naturally tanned girls related more with Kajol than Madz in the 90s. I guess you would love to discard that aspect also just because Kajol was not idolized by the liked of MF Husain etc etc etcsmiley39 These comparisons are lame as fu**. Even Madhuri herself would be cringing at the comparisons you're making in order to praise her.

Kajol definetly had it more easier than Madhuri in getting films, and she is nowhere close to Madz in terms of superstardom but she wouldn't be anywhere where she is today if the audiences didn't accept her.

I can also go off-track and go on and on about Sallu's criminal cases, numerous affairs and controversies (including beating his GFs) Salman is a nepo kid too btw . And his off-screen image is trash, and so is he in real life. SRK's off-screen image is 100 times more likable than Salman's image. But I don't like getting into all that.

You can praise one actor without degrading other actors. There's a thing called "co-existence". From my eyes, SRK and Kajol were NEVER ugly and there are MANY in INDIA who would agree with me. So, these "hard cold facts" are not really facts but glamorized opinions.

P.S. Don't reply if you can't reply without making every post a rant. Sorry, I even initiated a discussion here.
