How could I forget Mukesh? He was great as well
Speaking of old songs. I feel like only KK could do justice to them. I’ve been playing this everyday since he passed away.
I’ve spammed you enough 😆
Dang, girl. Where is the FF I know and what did you do to her? 😆😲
A lot of them look familiar, like Sheesha ho ya dil and a bunch of those featuring Rajesh Khanna.
Unfortunately, I was never exposed to these songs as a kid, so I didn't really develop a taste for them. My dad knows absolutely nothing about bollywood and my mom only started watching bollywood in the 90's ... she was watching stuff mostly from the 80's. and I never gave much priority to listen to anything other than pop culture stuff and whatever was blasting on the radio as a kid/teen.
these songs only came to my notice in the last ten years, I'd say, and I'm only learning to like them now. The old school charm is quite fascinating for sure. :) and I get the fascination with the poetry in these songs cuz I'm a sucker for it too. :)
I credit all those remixes and covers by singers like Sanam, etc. cuz they recreate the best and popular ones from those days . His rendition of Gulabi ankhein is so glorious and uplifts my mood right away, for example... it got me listening to the original one by Rafi too, which has its own charm. and he has so many others that are equally charming.
and that's where I stop rambling ... all I wanted to say is that I'm shooketh to the cores!! 😆

Now I draw the line with classics and the coma-inducing Ghazals. I like old songs because the depressing poetry just hits differently, pair that up with voices like Rafi, and you’ve sent me straight to heaven. Qawwali is a big no no and I have a very restricted limit to Ghazals before I’m looking like this. 😆

My dad loved poetry and had a book filled with ones he wrote himself. So I grew up with a lot of poetic influences. He even wrote a few dedicated to me, and read it out on my first birthday. Of course, I prefer the 90s songs because I lived through that era, but as I got older and experienced the beauty of sad lyrics (😆), I had a newfound appreciation for some of these old songs.

explains a lot.😊
for some reason, I generally like either the extremely old Hindi film songs or the very new ones. 90s was mostly english music, an interest that carried over thru college until a few years ago.
@coma-inducing ghazals=> I can relate to that because I was the same way.😆 Lately, I've started to love them. Of course one cant listen to them all the time... but they're a nice switch.
