reading the update for today and it made me face palm when it comes to gas leak. will I skip the episode for the sake of my brain? or maybe I should watch for laughs tomorrow? 😂
if there is a leak, it just won't affect the kitchen but it will impact other rooms as well. and the fire can spread if it is not put out quickly. so jo having this harebrained idea of cutting the gas is all kinds of stupid because she endangers herself as well. 😂
so keeping that nonsense aside, gas leaks do happen and the pipe can fray over time or get eaten by insects or rats. always a good idea to replace after a year or two.
here are the steps from PCRA on what to do and what not to do if there is a gas leak:
you can smell a leak very strongly -- never turn on a light, fan or other equipment at that time. that electrical switch can spark fires. we actually knew a family that suffered as a result. few members of their family passed away from that accident while the others had third degree burns.
so if you smell gas, please ventilate your house immediately by opening the windows. don't turn on the fan if it is not on already. keep windows open for half hour or so till you don't smell anything.
a simple way to check if there is a leak when you have installed the LPG to the stove is to check the regulator. take a wet cloth and apply some soap and wipe the regulator (where it connects) -- if there are any bubbles, it means you haven't installed your regulator and pipe correctly.
also, when traveling away (even if for a day or two), it is a good idea to turn off your regulator. if you are going away for a fortnight or more, it will be a good idea to remove the regulator and put the seal back on the LPG cylinder. we heard of an incident where the owners were not in town and there was a gas leak burst in the flat.
here ends the public service announcement!
