Apparently the movie cut out any mention of her having asthma (and when I saw it, I never caught a reference to it either) so many audience members thought that scene and her performance in general were over-the-top. Tbh, based on how sheltered and childlike her character is, especially at the beginning of the movie, I was under the impression that her character was developmentally disabled.

I think she caught a bad break between the legal issues she had with her parents and then the love life she had. Unlike other stars, she had no family background in the industry so she was completely alone. She came across as very articulate and intelligent in her early interviews, but unfortunately I don't find that as noticeable a quality in her public appearances now which seem very self-promotional.

The movie was Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai. They're both college students and he's in love with her but throughout the whole movie she has to explain to him that she's too focused on her studies and doesn't believe in love or relationships. It gets very repetitive and unrealistic, until the end when she out of the blue decides she is in love with him but this time he rejects her.

I remember this movie. It was a remake of a South Indian movie.

She did another movie with Aftab. The movie was Ankahee. I like the movie. The songs are awesome. She did better than Aftab and Esha in the movie.

She was one of the prettiest actress when she debuted.

Ameesha is my underrated favorite. Wish her career had progressed more but she'll always have this classic as her debut.

I love this song but I remember a few years back when this movie was on Netflix, this song was mysteriously missing.

This never made it to the final cut no? coz i remember watching this in 2000 itself and the so ng was missing..

They added it to the theatrical cut about 4-5 months after it hit theaters.

Her affair with Vikram Bhatt and the messy public falling out with her parents didn't help her at all. Now just a pale shadow of herself.

Might not have had a film background, but her family folks were very influential- her grandfather was a big lawyer, regional Congress chief and close to Indira Gandhi, and her grandmother was Sheriff of Mumbai. Her father knew Rakesh Roshan well- they both went to the same school.

Thank you for explaining. I guess Netflix used the theatrical cut which is why the song was missing because I've only ever seen the movie with it before that.

If her family was that influential and well-known, that explains why she was so educated and so different from the usual breed of actresses. The connection with Rakesh Roshan also explains how she got the high-profile role in KNPH. Very sad to see how she devolved over the years.
