No I didn’t watch it.

I don’t watch South Korean films.

I guess at one point of time that film was known in all households. But I doubt anymore. An that’s my issue w Oscar’s. They nominate lots of films most people never hear about

Off topic - Parasite is a great film, totally worth a watch.

Anyhow, generally Oscars celebrate the best films of the year. And they naturally don't have an overlap with the more mass market film. I think there were a few years in between, where these kind of films could no longer find an audience in theaters. But now with streaming, I would say Oscar nominees are generally finding audiences again. Heck I would say the real purpose Oscars serve is get small films an audience they won't get on their own.

For the first time I agree with Karan.

Although if it was Alia going to those shows he might have been creaming, but I agree with him. Attending these award shows means nothing to the BW or HW core audience.

While I agree that attending international festivals and winning an Oscar a la Slumdog Millionaire doesn't equate to cross over success, cuz it doesn't really make much of a difference on a bigger scale, I don't trust KJo cuz he's too suss a character for me to accept at face value ... so shade it is. Given how his favorite isn't attending Cannes or anything international at the moment (her Hollywood project nonetheless) while others are, this statement ... the timing of it, is sussss. 🐍

Would have KJo spoken so highly of pan Indian cinema and south movies if he wasn't benefitting from being the producer? I don't think so. His opportunistic streak is showing yet again. If tomorrow one of his films that he had produced lands in Oscar pile, he'd scream from the rooftops how it's an accomplishment. He makes sense here but only because it's beneficial to him. Sab chalta jab tak naam or paisa mile.

Moolah matters to him. He will swing in the direction of money.
