Bhansali is nowhere Rajamouli. Rajamouli's hype different level due to Baahubali. Gangubai collected approx 200crrs worldwide. If you are going by budget then take worldwide collection as well.

Anyways hit flop is not with budget but due to distribution cost and share. Other ways of earning is music, satellite rights etc.

As far as Tiger he have good following but if he keeps making movies like heropanti2, 3 and so on with pathetic directors like Ahmed Khan he will keep losing that fan following as well

I didn't say Bhansali was as big as Rajamauli but Bhansali is not your regular Bollywood director, he is one of those who are known by their names, which are only a handful in Bollywood, lets not discredit Bhansali in a Bhansali movie

Music and satellite rights are not added in box office collections if we do then no movie is flop, everyone is getting return except Distributors and theater owners

That is the thing, lockdown slowed down the popularity of BW. Plus people who support or fan of a star kid are kinda looked down today, so it has led to many people simply searching for new favorites.

Plus when we say Tiger is popular among single screen audience, it doesn't mean he is in the level of Salman or SRK. It means among the new generation actors, he is the most popular in that section.

I think we need to understand that apart from Salman at his peak, very few actors can pull audience in the theaters depsite shit trailer, shit reviews and shit music. Tiger's range is 70-80 scores, but if he keeps on doing 100+ budget movies without building the credibility he will loose anything he has currently. Plus timing is important, we just saw two of the biggest movies of the country in the same genre. Now you have a crap product, whose only USP is a meme Choti Bachi ho kya. So obviously it wouldn't compete.

As for why is the South movie being trolled, probably because of the budget and expectations.

Even I don't understand the business of South movies. How can they collect such huge amounts in just 1 state. RRR opening day All India gross is around 160 Cr whereas Bollywood's highest opening is WAR around 50 Cr only.

I don't understand box office sometimes low budget movies whose collection cross the budget are declared flop and sometimes high budget movies which does not even cross the budget or just earn a little more than the budget are declared super hits

According to BOI, budget was 166cr and collection was 125cr, I really don't understand how this movie is a hit, with the kind of buzz around it and celebrations, I had assumed it was a blockbuster, In one thread, I said Alia is bigger star than Ranbir, the way PR messes up with your brain is astonishing, I actually believed that Alia has become this big star who is bringing audience to the theater

Gangubai is a Sanjay Leela Bansali movie like RRR was a Rajamauli movie, collection of RRR is because people went to see movie directed by Bahubali's director

What determines a hit or a flop isn’t the budget but rather how much it was sold to distributors. Gangu apparently was sold for 90cr. A movie has to make a significant amount above the distributors price to be declared a hit. How much above the price I’m not sure. At 125cr the movie is probably a hit. But it’s definitely not a blockbuster.

With Gangu PR played a huge part in hyping it up. I remember the week before its release trade people were worried that it wouldn’t open in double digits and that was a bad sign. But suddenly after it’s release everyone started celebrating its 9cr opening. It’s like KJo said when he talked about all those 4 star reviews being ready before the release, it’s important to create a perception and then sell that perception. And no one did a better job with perception than Gangu’s and/or Alia’s marketing people.

Tiger’s formula of high flying stunts was working for him for a few years and looks like perhaps he and his team took screenplay and story for granted. Also he got hyped up too much for someone who’s career is only a few years old. But I doubt he’ll suffer much for it. I don’t know what his next release it but BMCM with Akshay next year will probably work well for him. He’ll just change his formula now and go from there.

Btw, Gangu's budget was 166cr (incl. publicity). Domestic collection 130cr. Domestic distributors most likely had paid the standard 80 -100cr. It couldn't even earn 160cr to break even.

Gangubai was a decent film but nowhere as great as it's pr made it out to be, it could have been a clean hit if the budget would have been cut down by 50% .

As far as Acharya goes, it had Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan after RRR and Koratla Shiva at the helm, yet the music not trailer was very interesting generally a 29cr movie opening is very good but coming from the team it is bad especially since the trailer and songs did not catch on much.

This shows that even for masala movies audience wants something different, big stars and directors may just get you day 1.

Ultimately content is king and going by TKF, Pushpa

RRR, KGF and Sooryavanshi had songs and a concept that clicked

Sorry as much as I wanted to praise Alia for trying something different. It sounds like another one of her PR hyped overrated films.

With the start of award season again majorly disappointed it is getting more notice than Sardar Udham.

At this rate people might call Brahamastra a hit if it manages to collected around 275 crore !
