Sunder for all things also has very low self confidence, he doesn't think he deserves arpi for one thing, doesn't want to fight for her, but he cries that no one can change his kismet. Which implies he will only get her if his kismet is good.

No he doesn't have to provide for her per se, they can be together and equal partners even if Arpita earns and he choose to be househusband, I've teased this topic months ago, it will be very progressive. However, like you say the way this track is being handled is the problem for all viewers.

Neither has he accepted his love to Arpita, nor has Arpita said anything about it, even if we assume they had some bonding which was not shown. In that case it clearly appears imlie shoving him down the throats of Aryan/naramada/viewers.

And reactions accordingly.

Taking some part time job or some course to polish his skills

Sunder character is not developed in the series enough to give a parallel track, but now is still a time, even if they go for instant engagement, they can show him concentrating on a career in the background and some relationship development in courtship like typical arranged marriage scenario.

Adding to my post above, it has not yet shown that Arpita works or not. There has to be one breadwinner in a relationship, just because Arpita is rich, we can't brush that under the carpet.

Art can break societal stereotypes but it change the age old practices overnight.

I absolutely agree that the track could be handled better. I don't think they are in love yet, they have some attraction/comfort with each other, that should have been developed. And I don't have a problem with Sundar crying, Imlie cries every 2 minutes :P I do agree that today's Sundar fell flat a little bit. Also, most of the reactions I read are about Sundar's place in society and not about his love/attraction for Arpita, hence my initial post.

I disagree with the last para, I find Aryan/Narmada/Blue trying to get Arpita engaged to a random guy more distasteful than Imlie suggesting Sundar. It's like revenge track is done, Aryan doesn't have anything else to drive his life, so he suddenly remembered his widowed sister (which is fine actually), and decided to go with the engagement (this is my problem, sit with her, your mother and speak man, why does she need to come to you, you can also take the initiative)

Sundar is definitely not an ideal guy, he has a lot of issues, but had he been a ML/second ML, people would have considered all these human flaws and expect other characters to work around these. That is my other issue. I think, after seeing Aryan, people are unable to accept Sundar as he is completely contradictory.

That was my first issue with writers, why couldn't they give Arpita even a part-time job? Doesn't even have to be paid for starters, just to help her get out of her thoughts about her late-husband.

Andddd this is my cue to take it easy or stop watching, I've started to defend supporting characters too 😵

my problem is that sunder seems a weak character...

He basically just cries and walks away from any situation. Yes imlie cries. But she will jump right into any situation and put in her best.

Even now, she is the one fighting for him. He is running away

Its not that he earns less or more than arpita. Or that he can be house husband.

But one must have a goal in life. Even if the goal is a person. So he might be happy with his current monetary situation but say he loves arpita. Has he done anything about that? Has he looked for a job not to earn money but to be acceptable to arpita family?? For their future?

No. He is just waiting for kismet. These people make the worst kind of life partners. In any problem he will just sit and twiddle his thumbs waiting for bhagwaan ki marzi rather than stepping up and being there for his partner

Imlie for all her faults can never be accused of sitting on the sidelines... She will put in her all for the people she loves. He will just hold arpitas hand and talk sweet talks and actually do nothing

Atleast Nishant n Rupi should have guided him properly in this matter. instead of making it some sort of entertainment for themselves.🤡🤡

Hehe... I've got my cue to take it easy for ages.... 😴

The wedding track mostly ended all the obsession, the writing is abysmal at best no point thinking too deep.

I don't think sunder is a problem because of Aryan, if you've watched the show before Aryan, do you think Tripathi's would consider him a good match for rupi if sunder loved rupi and rupi loved sunder?

They didn't consider imlie good enough for adi for the longest time and let's be honest adi can't hold a candle to aryan.

So this problem would have prevailed everytime, even if imlie tried to match make sunder and rupi with old family dynamics.

The problem narratively is, sunder character was not developed properly to give him a parallel track. Yes he's a good human and comfortable in his life and position, and he knows he's not eligible for her so not fighting for her also, that's also ok, but for Aryan and audience to consider him a good match for arpi, it has to be arpi to say he's her choice in the least. Other things can come later.

Exactly your last point, Arpita can be the more vocal and strong person in their relationship.

Tripathi's would never accept Sundar as anything other than house-help. I was talking about viewers/audience. From my experience, a lot of people expect men to be more dominating/vocal in the relationships, and Sundar is complete opposite to that, i.e. female counterpart in traditional relationships and that might be hard to digest for many. Thankfully, things are changing even if slowly. For all the talk from Imlie, she doesn't really have an ambition, atleast I haven't seen anyone in the show working towards anything.

Sorry, I tried tagging, it didn't work :(

Yes, that would be a great thing to show role reversal in the relationship breaking stereotypes but it's too much to expect sensitivity from ITV writing.

Also, Arpita still has trauma of past relationship, and the writers have suddenly opened the widow card for her which wasn't there previously which stops her from being vocal.

Imlie for everything does have ambition, but she loves kitchen politics more 🤡

People pleasing is ingrained in women from small age and imlie's background makes her strive harder for love and acceptance 😔
