People need breastfeeding classes, and it's the fault of the Healthcare system for nor providing it for free?
I used to believe breastfeeding is a no brainer. What is there to it - mother produces milk, baby consumes milk. That's that. What is there to learn? Breastfeeding classes seem like some dumb elite thing for suckers.
But there is so much of breastfeeding that isn't intuitive. There is so much about the anatomy of breasts we don't know. I did not know that there were milk ducts close to the armpits. I did not know what to do if the baby is not latching or unable to suckle. I did not know when and how often women need to pump to prevent mastitis and other infections. I did not know that teething babies shouldn't bite or graze the nipples with their teeth and that you can correct a teething baby to latch painlessly. I did not know that when first milk is pale and watery and that the latter milk is thicker, fattier, and most nutritious.
I wish that all these were taught in school and not some secret knowledge that you had to pass down mother to mother or pay to learn. And I don't think only mothers or women should know this. It seems like common sense most people should know to be supportive partners, friends, or parents.
