Yeah fair enough (bold).
I agree that the acting in the series was top-notch (Henry Thomas has been one of my favorite actors since, well, ET
) but as an adaptation of the Jackson novel, it just fell short for me. The book evokes a kind of subliminal horror which the series didn't for me (I guess it's the difference between picturing things in one's head versus seeing them on the screen). One of my favorite scenes in the book was the one where Eleanor and Theo are barricaded in the bedroom with that awful hammering presence outside and they think they are holding each others hand. But then it turns out they weren't... ooh that was creepy. I can't remember now, did they adapt that in the series?
I will say the series is WAY better than the hideous movie adaptation with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta Jones - best avoided
There is also a very old black and white adaptation which I watched a while back and which was truer to the original novel but also lacked something. I did notice that Flanagan had done his homework and connected his series with book, and I definitely take your point that he fleshed out the narrative pretty well. The book was barely a hundred pages so he probably took it more as inspiration than anything else.
Wow Hindi dubbing - that's cool! I might have to try that out sometime on Netflix...

Agree to disagree here.
Also, it's a series adaption on Netflix. Pretty sure the original story wouldn't have garnered the praise it has gotten now.
And his interpretation was a lot more interesting and better for me than the original author.
Plus the way he's connected the book with the series.
Like: Eleanor - Nellie
Eleanor's past story: Olivia Crain's story
The doctor who calls them: Nellie's doctor in the show
Theo's childhood story: Same here too
Eleanor Vance: Nellie's husband's surname is Vance so she becomes Eleanor Vance

Plus moreover, there are so many detailed character analysis for each siblings. Where the five of them represent five stages of grief, the bond between the twins, the sympathy for their mother, and the secrets of the house. Everything about that tv series is commendable and worth watching again and again.
In fact, the more you watch it, the more you love it.
I've already watched it twice and I'm gonna binge again for the third time now haha.
P.s. hindi dubbing is also good.
