I hated the sappy overtones that Flanagan added to the show at the end with all the spirit people cosying up to each other (he did the same for Bly Manor). I love the book, it's the best haunted house story I've read. What I liked about the book was that, at the end, you just knew that the loneliness Elinor fought in life was now going to last an eternity for her. Whether Hill House was haunted or not before, now it definitely was by her. It's a dark ending but hey, that's why I read horror novels. I thought Flanagan's series was okay as a standalone but his interpretation was definitely not the same as Shirley Jackson's - I just liked hers better y'know?
Agree to disagree here.
Also, it's a series adaption on Netflix. Pretty sure the original story wouldn't have garnered the praise it has gotten now.
And his interpretation was a lot more interesting and better for me than the original author.
Plus the way he's connected the book with the series.
Like: Eleanor - Nellie
Eleanor's past story: Olivia Crain's story
The doctor who calls them: Nellie's doctor in the show
Theo's childhood story: Same here too
Eleanor Vance: Nellie's husband's surname is Vance so she becomes Eleanor Vance

Plus moreover, there are so many detailed character analysis for each siblings. Where the five of them represent five stages of grief, the bond between the twins, the sympathy for their mother, and the secrets of the house. Everything about that tv series is commendable and worth watching again and again.
In fact, the more you watch it, the more you love it.
I've already watched it twice and I'm gonna binge again for the third time now haha.
P.s. hindi dubbing is also good.
