Underwhelming posters.

I like Trisha and Karthi's posters. Ash's is very dark. Can't even see her face properly due to darkness. Other than Karthi and Trisha all posters look fan made.

Film will do well in Tamilnadu. Thats for sure. Its their 50 years dream. It will be a Hit even if it is not that good because of the novel's popularity among Tamilians.

Hindi audience only know Aishwarya and Vikram. It won't do well in North because its a South Indian medieval history. North won't connect with it unless its extremely good.

Mani Ratnam is outdated film maker. He won't live up to the expectation.

Yes, both the English and Tamil translations are available on Kindle. No idea if Ash is playing a double role.I just read a couple of pages. What I remember hearing was that she plots her vengeance after the death of a lover / relative /someone close to her. First step was marrying an elderly man and gaining influence to dabble in palace politics.

I trust Mani to handle the epic drama. But as other members have posted, the cast is unlikely to garner any interest outside TN. Also Vikram is rather old for the titular character.

In the look you mean? Cos Bahubali itself borrowed some things from Ponniyin Selvan. Rajamouli was clearly inspired by the novel.

She does play a double role. Mandakini is a mute lady and her resemblance with her daughter Nandini is supposed to be a major plot point. It's going to be fun, hope Mani is able to pull all of it off. It's a tough one!

Her role Nandini Devi is the main villain and arguably the single most important role in the film. The other role Mandakini Devi is her mother who is a mute good hearted queen. Mandakini was lover of Chola King Sundara Chola (Prakash Raj) but he betrayed her. Sundara never married her and married another woman.

Mandakini married someone else and had a daughter Nandini who looks like her.

Sundara Chola has 3 children. Aditya Karikalan, Kundavai Devi & Arun Mozhi Verman.

Aditya Karikalan (Vikram) is a warrior. He had a huge crush for Nandini since childhood but Nandini never had any interest in him. Aditya killed her father in a war.

Nandini's mother was betrayed by Sundara Chola and her father was killed by Sundara's son Aditya.

The most beautiful Nandini Devi became evil princess due to what chola father-son did to her parents.

She wanted revenge from Chola kingdom and wanted to destroy the kingdom. So she married Periya (Sarath Kumar), the enemy of Chola kingdom who was in his 60's but a warrior king. The old husband of Nandini is besotted by his wife's beauty. He is just a ploy to his wife.

Aditya Karikalan has one younger sister Kundavai (Trisha) and a younger brother Arun Mozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi).

Kundavai is the main heroine and her lover Vandiyadevan (Karthi) is the main hero of the film. Vandiya is Aditya's best friend and a very funny sarcastic but very lovable man.

When Aditya again fell in love with Nandini his sister Kundavai tried him not to get seduced by Nandini's beauty because she is not what is shown in her beautiful face. She is a snake and evil snake.

Aditya despite warning from her younger sister he went to Nandini but someone killed him by beheading.

This created suspense. Who killed Aditya?

Vandiya, Kundavai's lover became a spy and tried to solve the murder mystery.

On the other hand Arun Mozhi was in Sri Lanka. He is Aditya and Kundavai's younger brother. Now that Aditya is killed there is only Arun Mozhi who can become next Chola king.

The enemies of Cholas ploted a plan to kill Arun Mozhi Varman. When Kundavai knew it she went to Sri Lanka to save her younger brother and future king.

Here Vandiya, Aditya's best friend tried to know more of Nandini and her plans. He disguised himself in various look to get into Nandini's palace.

The story revolves around how Vandiya, Kundavai and Arun Mozhi tried to solve murder mystery of Aditya Karikalan and how Arun Mozhi Varman later became great king Raja Raja Cholan.
