@Krystall: Yaar I wasn't addressing you about the 'their side' thing....that's just a little silly nautanki with Aarti that I was doing! 😆 😆

Nothing to the engineer thing really.

And ummm...I wasn't talking about his natural acting when I implied why the scene was natural...but let it be..it's ok.

Aarti, I am already late in finding this post and commenting, so I have taken the time-saving route of not reading all of the comments of the other worthies, who seem to have immensely enjoyed your post by the looks of the last 13 pages. Therefore, this comment runs the danger of being replete with repetitions of thoughts perhaps already expressed hereinbefore. With that disclaimer, a la gina, and also that I write as a hapless viewer and dejected afficiando (so forgive my trespasses), I begin my humble two bits!

As I was reading your narration of the story of Shahryar and his queen, a thought kept running around in my mind and that was this- it is amazing how nothing changes in this world! over centuries, across cultures, perhaps even across galaxies for all we know, the fascination with and of a story well-told, the spell cast by an amazing tale , no matter how fantastic or how imaginary, has never ceased to sway minds! Its almost as if it is one of the most abiding truths of the human mind, the love of a good tale, and usually the more magical the better. the more it transports the listener into a state of mental and cerebral wonder, fascination and almost trance-like joy , the better. and yet there is a danger! the danger of the fascination becoming a stranglehold, the lure becoming a curse , and the addiction being taken advantage of to spew out mind-numbing and mind-altering venom.

Never has a more apt, more timely and more heart-wrenching piece been written in this forum in my albeit woefully short presence here. Heart-wrenching for those who were the first converts , the dazed and bedazzled listeners who could not believe (in the initial days)that anything of such quality, such joy, such colour and anything so well-crafted and conceived could emanate out of the crowd of mundane and mind-boggling tales. A tale of friendship, dedicated and focussed youth, professionalism , of fun, joy and positive enthusiasm, where healers went about spreading wellness both inside and outside the box. Indeed, a community of faithfuls sprang up and formed , who all flocked to the holy mountain where the fountain of joy sprang forth. Could it be true? A tale with no wicked witch, no scheming intrusions, human or of destiny. No garish clothing , no convolusions, no confusion regarding parentage. A tale which would not spawn generations or make implausible leaps over time. I could not agree more when you describe the people who sat in the dust. Women with children, indeed, people with jobs, wives with husbands----aaah, dont rub it in! been there all, and done that all indeed! and boy, the shame of returning to smirking family with heads hung ! I cannot even begin to describe the despair of that. The despair of watching the slow slide into mire, of a hope shattered in the most disappointing manner, of the slow dying of anticipation of even knowing the end of the 1002nd story, if at all such an end existed, and the setting in of an exhaustion and detachment.

And how indeed did Scheherzade fall prey to the desire to incorporate twists, because complacence and lack of threat to self has always been the downfall of the great through history, whether it is the downfall of civilizations, administrations, political parties, professionals, sportsmen or creativity. And Shahryar's lust for fame and pride--or is it a misplaced need for self-aggrandizement , an obsession with self and a shameless ability to exploit and utilize ill-gotten power. Has Shahryar, who so shamelessly manipulates the story , to showcase non-existent prowess, never heard of the benefits or the necessity for job specialization? Leave it to the expert, is the best piece of wisdom such a king would have done well to keep in mind, lest trespassing into the territory of other people's expertise bring about his own downfall to oblivion! shahryar is remembered only if scheherzade's tales reamin in people's memories, not because he suddenly wanted to perform unnatural feats akin to a belly-dancer's gyrations or ride horses with dimples amidst churnig waters. scheherezade had after all demonstrated a unique and creative talent, and he should have let her be to her job!

scheherzade , of course, did the unpardonable. she gave in to external influences and extraneous curbs on her creativity and allowed her imagination to be modified by those less able , and finally forgot the purpose of the tales and sank into creative laziness. the desire to excel when lost as a goal, must necessarily result in the loss of excellence. QED.

The remaining audience became amalgamated into one voice, one face....👏👏Scares the hell out of me. The remaining audience has started to do more than that. It has started participating in, and partaking of Shahryar's flights of fancies, to a point where his flights of fancy as well as theirs have also got amalgamated into one scary, grotesque , runaway rogue train. The bewitchment is complete,it would seem. The magic elixir breaking the spell may never be found, in the ongoing quest for C&K, not to mention DD. I am scared because I am a mother.

Defectors, outsiders, rule-breakers indeed. But the story of civilization shows, as does the tale of the 1002nd night, that rule-followers never changed the course of history. It is always the outsiders, the rule-breakers, the challengers , the doubters, the questioners who carried human thought, progress and achievement forward, because they are the ones who THINK, who see beyond bias, who dare to question, and most important DISAGREE. I may disagree with you, but I will always fight for and stand up for your right to speak what you feel. And hence I am. And hence is my freedom , my spirit, and my thoughts. Obsessed we were, perhaps to some last vestige, I still am in some fading degree. In the hope, that perhaps the genie of the lamp will somehow turn the clock back to the wondrous times when the tales were mesmerizing, uplifting and a joy to all! Will such a day dawn? Will Scheherzade rediscover her touch and weave her threads of the tale anew? To quote my son, has the belly dancer gone mad ? Why is she behaving like this?
Will the deadly night end?

Bravo girl, you are the most awesomest! What a piece!👏 👏
