No not high art but considering how those teenage triangle movies are usually played out, it was a pleasant surprise. Plus I liked that Ellie Chu's attraction is her intelligence and also that the FL is played by an Asian actress who's not drop-dead stunning. My bar for a certain genre of US movies is also pretty low 😆

I'm still waiting for a really good Indian-American female character - Devi in Never Have I Ever was basically Mindy Kaling's wish fulfilment avenue (much like her character in the Mindy Show). Don't know if you've seen either - they're entertaining at face value but underneath it is a disturbing vibe that Indian women are only validated by white (and superhot) men...

Yep. Agree with everything that you said in the first paragraph.

I have seen the first season. And it was also very stereotypical, right? I wasn't interested enough to watch the second season.

I don't understand why the entire family went to deliver Anisha. Like 90 year old Mimi bhi gayi? Kyun? To see more drama? 😔

Isn't she scared of getting heart attack seeing Birla kands on a daily basis?

Or may be they went to see PR pappu's embarrassed chehra.

Sirf bachche nahi. Where are the rest of the family members go? AG is living as if he is a chronic bachelor. Now his obsession of Aarohi is also down that he just stands there with no dialogues.

Yeah I don't think you missed much (unless you liked the mom who was given more screen time and a really sweet relationship with her MIL). Plus it had Common!

Never Have I Ever catered to a lot of ABCD tropes. Mindy Kaling is kind of a 'coconut' (though I can't help admire her for becoming a top notch TV comedy writer which is both a male and white-male dominated profession in the US). Plus for a long time, she didn't fall into the thin-is-beautiful thing. But she's now trying to confirm to white beauty stereotypes which is not only sad but also basically impossible for her. I find her really cringe now...

For whatever that is happening between AbhiRa, right now, like Goenka family reaching Birla house, people are blaming Aarohi. 🙄

i love AAROHI she's a badass what's wrong if she told the truth what else is she supposed to do let some strange stalker girl who is after KAIRAV into their house

and AAROHI did it all with so much style and class

Yeah. I totally get it. Like she is trying too hard. I kind of feel so let down by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler too. Like they are losing their edge.

Yeah those two were the riotgrrls of the early 2000s but definitely losing their edge. It's comedians like Awkafina, Issa Rae and the girls from Two Dope Queens who are taking their place. But I think the more successful they get, the more likely they are to become mainstream as well... It's a sort of Catch-22 I guess. Eventually everyone sells outs...
