“Wait, Raj! Where are you going?” Babita blocked Raj’s path.

“What do you mean where are you going? I’m going to Meet. If Meet bahu has said that he still has feelings for Manushi, I want to ask him straight. Meet bahu bahut suljhi hui ladki hain. She won’t just say something like that. I’m going to go and…”

“You’ll do nothing of that sort. If there’s any talking to be done, I will do it. Me. Until now, you’ve always done whatever you felt like,” Babita snapped, making no effort to hide her anger and hurt. “You got him married to this girl against his wishes, without even talking to me. You pushed Sunaina into marrying another guy. Today, whatever she’s facing here, in this house, it’s not because of me. It’s because of you, Raj. Only you. But now, enough! You will NOT say a word. If my son wants Manushi, if he still loves her, I will make it happen and you will not interfere.”

It was obvious that Raj didn’t like it. At all. But Babita used a weapon he couldn’t fight against. His decision to get Sunaina married. “Fine. You talk to him but if he comes to me and asks, I won’t lie. I won’t hide anything.”

****

“Good morning, Meet!” With the early morning rays touching his face, MeetA opened his eyes and turned to his right. Only the bed was empty. Again! “Urgh! She left already! Again! Sach mein yeh ladki bhi na!” Grumbling to himself, he gets ready and goes down for his breakfast. Everyone was seated but he frowned as he sensed an awkward silence.

“Uh, good morning! What’s happened? Why are you guys so quiet?”

Tej, who was seated beside his mom, looked up, that innocent, shy smile hesitantly directed at him and just as quickly disappearing as he began searching around. “D-dost? Dost?”

Smiling, MeetA rounded the table and squatted beside his brother. “Ji. Aapki dost kaam pe gayi hain. Shaam tak aajeyegi. Lekin agar usse patachalgaya ki aapne apni breakfast nahi kiya toh woh hum dono ke peeche padjaayegi. Chaliye, chaliye!” He gently coaxed Tej into starting his breakfast.

Raj, as if unable to keep quiet, gently prodded. “Beta Meet, bahu…”

Babita intervened. “Why are you starting it again? He told you na, that she left for work?” She darted a quick look at Tej. MeetA took in the breakfast dishes, grabbed a couple of sandwiches for himself. His casual glance towards the kitchen locked on to Sunaina, who was gesturing him to come inside once. The worried, pleading expression got him quickly excusing himself on the pretext of getting himself some fruit juice.

“Kya hua bhabhi? You need anything?” he asked in the relative privacy of the kitchen.

“Yeh mein kya sunn rahi hoon, Meet? Meet ghar se chaligayi hain? Lekin kyu?” Her eyes were full of worry.

MeetA frowned and then grinned. “Arre no bhabhi! Aisa kuch nahi hain! The last few days her workload has been more na. So she is leaving early and coming late. That’s it. But hopefully today things will return to normalcy and she will be able to ease up a little.”

“Par Meet, Masoon was saying…”

“Aap bhi na bhabhi! Kiske baaton mein aagayi! Meet kaha jaayegi? Shaam tak wapas aajayegi.” Scowling at his sister’s inherent talent for making issues out of non-issues, he quickly wrapped up his breakfast.

“You’re going to be working all day. Shall I pack some lunch for you?” Manushi asked, her eager smile only managing to irritate him.

“No thanks. I’ll manage.” Waving bye to everyone, he left home. But once in his car, he quickly sent a message to MeetH.

Good morning. Kahan ho? Sorry.

His phone pinged after a couple of minutes. It is OK. :)

Grinning, he stuffed his phone back in his backpack. Once she comes in the evening, he would talk to her. He thought of the temporary study desk of hers in their room along with its mismatched chair. His eyes lit up. Yes! That’s what he would gift her for Lohri. A day late but still, a gift is a gift. She would have the most sleek, convenient desk and adjustable chair where she can sit and study comfortably long into the night without getting a creak in her neck or shoulder. He had been meaning to talk to her about her exam schedule too. He would do all that today. Humming to himself, he left for work.

****

“Meet, sach sach bata manne! Baat ke hain? Tu aise achanak apna saasriye se yaha kyu aagayi?” Anubha demanded, blocking MeetH’s way as she went to pick up her bike keys and helmet. MeetH could feel dadi’s worried eyes on her but what could she say? If she said anything now, they would worry. Better to wait until she knew for sure what Daudu Ram planned to go ahead with didi before broaching the subject with her mummy and dadi.

When her daughter remained mum, Anubha prodded further. “Kahi tu uss din ki meri baat ko lekar…”

“Na mummy!” MeetH hastened to reassure her mom. “Aisa kuch na hain! Buss manne laga ki tere saath aur apne Senorita ke saath kuch din bitau. Toh buss chali aayi. Manne yaha nahi rehna hain toh bol…” she made a move towards the main door. “Abhi chalijaati hoon.”

“Lipatli? Ab meri sunn! Sastron mein likha hain, muskilen chahe jitne bhi ho, beti ki muskaan sab mitadeve hain!” Hiding her worry behind her smile, dadi hugged MeetH. “Tu jab chahe aaja. Jitna rehna hain rehle. Buss ek baat bata, waha sab teek haina? Konno paresaani hai ke?”

“Arre na dadi! Manne ke paresaani hogi? Kuch na hain! Manne toh buss apne Senorita ke saath rehna tha, so mein aagayi! Ab jau?” MeetH’s lips lost their smile as her own words. “Mera matlab hain, aati hoon.”

Anubha waited until MeetH left. “Ammaji, mujhe kuch achha na lagrahan. Woh Manushi…woh chori udhar hain aur yeh humaari lado idhar…kahi kuch…”

“Devi ma pe bharosa rakh. Sab teek hove hain.”

****

MeetA checked his watch again. It was dinner time and MeetH still hadn’t come home. The messages he’d sent went unanswered. He’d tried calling her but she didn’t pick up.

“You must be tired after a long day. And hungry too. Shall I get your dinner to your room or would you prefer to come down?”

Manushi’s question halted his pacing. He looked at her smiling face, at the concern shining out of her eyes. “No thanks. I’ll eat when I feel hungry.” Suddenly tired and irritated at the charade, he strode up to his room and closed the door. Her new desk and chair was ready and waiting for her. He’d even wrapped a huge bow tie around it that his Meet would cut and inaugurate. He had been imagining her reaction, her childish look of delight, that smile. He would make her sit in the chair and adjust it to her height. He’d planned it al down to the last detail but now…? Now…Worry was eating away at him. Where was Meet? Why hasn’t she come home yet? She had never been this late ever before! Was she in some kind of trouble? His forehead started sweating as all the worst case scenarios flashed across his mind. What if those gundas got their hands on her? What if she’d been in some accident, her phone died on her or she lost it…dammit! He should go look for her! Then on a sudden impulse, he called Anubha.

“Ji, aunty, namaste. Sorry, itni raat ko mein call karke aapko disturb kar raha hoon!”

“Arre kaisi baat karrahe hain damad ji. Kahiye, kaise aap sab?”

“Ji, sab teek hain, aunty. Aap…aap aur dadi ji kaise hain? Meet kerahi thi ki aapka trip achhe se hogaya.”

“Ji.”

“Aunty, Meet aayi hain kya waha par?”

“H-haan. Yahi toh hain. Kaha hain ki humse milne ka mann kiya aur aagayi. Bahut thak gayi hain toh khana khaake sogayi.”

“Oh! Mein aake pick up karta hoon phir. N-nahi. Phir kal usko apne bike ki zaroorat padegi na. Teek hain aunty. Aap usko sone deejiye. Waise bhi thak gayi hain. Lekin kal usko yaha aanekeliye boliyega please. Kaam pe jaane se pehle. Mein breakfast pe uska wait karoonga.”

Anubha’s smile lit up her whole face. “Ji bilkul boldongi aur bhej bhi doongi. Aap chinta na kare.”

“Thank you aunty. Goodnight.”

MeetA ended the call with a scowl. She was with her mom! Can’t she call and let him know? Or message at least? Badi aayi Shabad ki Don! Aane do use! Jab chahe apni mann maani karti hain! Meri koi concern hi nahi hain! Pati hoon koi aira gaira nahi! Thodi toh responsibility honi chahiye na!

His sulky mood lasted through the dinner. He only pushed it aside long enough to let a restless, scared Tej Veera know that his dost got delayed but would be coming the next day. Night was spent punching his pillow and adjusting the damn stupid blanket that refused to stay in place. So what if he kept kicking it off, it was a blanket. It was supposed to cover him and keep him warm! It never misbehaved when MeetH was sharing the bed. And the pillow? When did it become so lumpy? Meet must’ve done this! Took his nice soft pillow and exchanged it with her lumpy one. Muttering threats, he threw his pillow to the floor, grabbed hers and dug his face into it. With a deep relieved sigh, he finally slid off to sleep.

****

MeetA made sure he was up early the next morning and got ready too, in case MeetH came and hijacked the bathroom. He cursed when he checked his phone and found it dead. He’d forgotten to charge it the previous night. Plugging the charger in, he began getting ready.

“Good morning, beta!” Babita came in.

“Good morning mom!” MeetA’s smile of welcome slipped when he saw that his mom wasn’t alone. Manushi was with her with three cups of coffee on a tray. Smiling, she extended the tray towards him wordlessly. Muscle ticking in jaw, he took one cup and placed it on the bedside table without tasting it.

“Meet, I was thinking,” Babita began. “Manushi has been housebound for so long. Why don’t the both of you go do some shopping today? It’s a Sunday so you anyway don’t have to worry about your office work…”

MeetA was speechless. Has his mom totally lost it? Shopping? Him and Manushi? “No mom! I’m not in mood for any shopping today.”

“OK then go for some movie. Or a drive…”

“Mom, What’s gotten into you today? I’m not going anywhere with anyone. I’m waiting for Meet now. She is going to come and…”

“That girl is not going to come, Meet!” Babita’s voice cut in. MeetA looked confused and taken aback at his mom’s tone. Manushi quietly excused herself and left the room. She lowered it a little. “Meet is never going to come back. She left you and this house.”

MeetA stared at him mom for a few moments before chuckling. “What are you saying, mom? Woh yaha nahi aayegi toh aur kaha jaayegi? Uski aadat aap ko pata hai na. Woh aise nahi jayegi.. woh bhi mujhe bina bataye..She’s probably on her way now…”

“She is not going to come! She is never going to come. She told us before leaving.”

“Told you…what?”

“That she doesn’t want to be in this marriage anymore. Usko achhi beti banna hain. Toh apne maa ke ghar chaligayi. Sunn beta, jo hogaya so hogaya. And it’s for your own good. You have your whole life ahead of you. Whatever has happened until now, you can put it behind you and…”

“Mom! Stop! Just stop! Please!”

“Beta, I’m not forcing you. I would never do that. I just want you to be happy. I’m telling you that now you can be happy. Think about it. Manushi is waiting.”

MeetA frowned at those words. He waited for his mom to leave his room before grabbing his phone and calling MeetH. It went unanswered. Again. Doubts started creeping in. His mom’s words, Manushi’s constant presence and offers of help and company since the previous day, the family's awkward silences, Ragini’s disappointed look, Sunaina’s worried eyes as she asked him why Meet has left the house, Meet refusing his calls and messages…Meet sitting beside him asking him to share what was bothering him, him snapping at her, her - toh phir mein jaati hoon.

She’d said that. She’d said - mein jaati hoon. But he’d always told her to say mein aati hoon. Why did she say that? What the hell! And there was only one person who would have answers. His dad.

“Dad?”

Raj, who was stretched out on his bed, with his back leaning against pillows, opened his eyes. He looked tired. Sad. Seeing MeetA, he sat up straighter and put on his glasses. “Yes beta, come in.”

“Dad, what happened? Why is mom saying Meet is not going to come back? Why would Meet not come back? She wouldn’t leave like that, dad! Not my Meet!”

“You tell me, beta. What happened between both of you?” MeetA frowned in incomprehension. “What did you tell my bahu that made her believe that you are still in love with Manushi and that you want to live your life with Manushi?”

MeetA blinked and blinked again. It took a few moments for those words to sink in. “Manushi ke saath? Mein? What are you saying, dad? I never said…forget saying, I can’t even think of anyone other than my Meet in my life.” Father and son, both went silent as those words hovered between them. Raj, with eyes once again full of hope and light and MeetA as if he was peeking inside himself, sorting through his own thoughts. When did that happen? When did he let go of his past so completely to the extent that it didn’t even matter anymore? When did he reach the point where even contemplating his life with anyone other than his Meet became an impossibility? When did his friendship turn into love? MeetH had crept in so slowly, so quietly that he didn’t realize that along with healing his wounded heart, she began owning it too. He was not merely moving on with his wife. He has fallen in love with her. Completely, head over heels in love! MeetA loves MeetH. His best friend, his perfect life partner.

“Beta?”

MeetA shook himself out of his thoughts. He can sort through them later. He had more important things to do now. Like knowing why she left and getting her back. “Dad, tell me exactly what happened. Everything you know. Please.”

Raj didn’t leave anything out. And every word MeetA heard, cut through his insides and left him bleeding. Thopa hua rishta. He was the one who’d said those words. But that hatred and anger hadn’t lasted long. They hadn’t stood a chance in front of her pure heart. Now that phrase was a kick in his guts. The fact that she felt that’s what she is to him…that she so strongly believed that she would never be his choice, clawed his insides like a rake. But how did she come to the conclusion that he wanted to be with Manushi? He hadn’t said a word even remotely implying that. Which meant...

Manne Mannu didi se baat ki

MeetH’s words from that night came back to him.

“Dad, you need to come with me.”

Raj didn’t ask any questions. With hope beating strongly in his heart, he went to get ready. He found Babita and Manushi in the hall, going through some of his mom’s designer wear and conveyed the same to them. Not wanting to leave anything to chance, he called Anubha and told her that they were coming and to please make sure MeetH was at home.

****

Daudu Ram aaraha hain! Uncle ji, aunty ji aur Mannu didi ne saath. Rishte ki baat karne? Itni jaldi? MeetH staggered a little before straightening and holding herself upright. Kyu na ho! Dono ek dosre se pyar karte haina! Par manne rukne ki ke jaroorat?

“Mummy! Manne rehke ke karna! Manne kaam hain!” She tried reasoning with her mom.

“Chup kar! Aur aaj Sunday hain. Tere chutti ka din. Chupchaap bait.” Anubha snapped, busy preparing snacks. “Ammaji chori ko samjhao!” Dadi signaled MeetH to keep quiet and sit beside her. They didn’t have to wait long. The sound of the car screeching to a halt could be heard clearly. Anubha rushed to open the door. Her smile of welcome slipped when she spotted Manushi but she invited them all inside.

MeetA shot his wife with a glare that she returned with a scowl of her own. “Aunty ji, mein aapka zyaada waqt nahi loonga. Woh darasal baat yeh hain ki galti se aapki aamaanat mere ghar mein rehgayi. Usse lautane aaya hoon aur apni amaanat ko apne ghar lejaane aaya hoon.”

Raj and Anubha, both caught on immediately, both smiling wide enough to crack their faces. MeetH got up from her place. “Oi, ke amaanat? Ke kehraha hain tu?”

“Tum chup raho!” MeetA snapped back. “Badi aayi daan karan, apni pati ko daan karne chali thi. Melodramatic queen!”

“Manne koi queen veen nahi banna! Manne sab pata hain!”

“Manne sab pata hain!” MeetA taunts her. “Tanne kuch nahi pata.” Whirling towards Manushi, he asked, “Manushi, kya hain humare beech mein? Humara rishta kya hain?”

Manushi paled and tried to regroup. “Y-yeh kaisa sawal hain, jiju? A-aap mere behen ke pati hain…”

MeetH tugged on his arm to get his attention. “Didi sabke samne bol na paarahi hain. Woh tanne se pyar karti hain,” she explained, trying to keep her voice low but knowing that in that small space, everyone can hear her as clear as a bell.

“Haan toh?” MeetA snapped back, making no effort to tone his voice down. He was running low on patience and it was obvious to MeetH. “Woh pyar karti hain toh mein kya karu? Mein toh nahi karta usse!”

“Lekin tanne toh kaha tha…”

“Kya?”

“Ki tere pheeling bolega toh manne hurt hoga.”

“Haan, kyun ki woh tumhari behen hain aur woh mujhe irritate karrahi hain. Mein woh baat tumse bolunga toh tumhe bura lagega na!”

“Lekin…t-tu sunn meri baat. Tum dono na…tumhari jodi sahi hain…”

“Sahi hain…tum kahogi aur mein maanjaunga! Kya koi jabardasti hain yeh?”

Babita, Raj and Anubha watch the two of them like it’s an interesting tennis match. Neither give the elders a chance to get a word in edgewise.

“Na. Jabardasti na hain. Tu humesa galat matlab kyu nekalre hain?” MeetH was now angry.

“Jabardasti nahi hain toh aur kya hain?” MeetA was equally angry. “Mein Manushi se pyar nahi karta. Mera uske saath koi rishta nahi hain. Aur na kabhi hogi! Woh teri behen hain. Buss. Jija sali ka rishta bhi nahi chahiye mujhe kyon ki mein usse trust nahi karta. Bilkul bhi nahi! Samjhi tum?”

MeetH’s eyes fluttered for the first time. “P-phir manne jaane se roka bhi nahi na tu?”

MeetA’s anger went down but the scowl didn’t. “Sorry. Lekin abhi aage se jaane bhi nahi doonga. Aunty ji aur dadi ji tumse milna chaahe unko hi waha aana padega.”

Everyone except Manushi sighed in relief and joy. MeetA took a step closer, one hand gripping his Meet’s palm tight and another one gently brushing her wayward short tendril back from her cheek. “Meine isi jagaha kaha tha ki tum meri choice nahi ho sakti... Humpar thopa hua rishta ho tum, phir kabhi ghar mat aana.” Both of them recalled that day, those words. But neither blinked or looked away from the other. “Mein aaj isi jagaha keh raha hoon.. Meet mein chahata hoon tum mere saath ghar aaoo. Mujhpar koi jabardasti nahi ho rahi...Tumhare saath hi rehana chahata hoon. Ghar chalo. Please?”

MeetH blinked rapidly, clearing her vision. Her smile dawned, widened until it lit up her whole face. She took in the joy of the whole family. She knew her didi had lied to her but in that moment, none of that mattered. Nothing mattered. She was Mrs Meet Ahlawat and she was going home!!

This is really good, thank you for writing this as this finally gives closure to the manushi drama to me. I don’t think this will be possible in the show now as the guy is still impacted by manushi 🙄 so they have changed track or were always planning that way not sure..I am really upset with the makers after knowing what will happen in tomorrow’s episode..seems Meety should leave for good and stop being a therapist 🥴

Thanks for catching the main phrases. While you highlighted them all

Suvika is not commenting as I kept pestering her to complete the OS over the weekend. We discussed and debated way too much on this. 10 pages each part was definitely not easy.

The precap was such a let down.. She will login tomorrow and definitely respond

Yeah the progression they showed is down to zero if he is impacted and what is this impact..the guy knows her intentions, knows she is manipulating, even has doubts but is still attracted..they are making it a very shallow character. This is not love but physical attraction and then all his attention to meet is pointless.

They should just give the guy his lust called love and get meet to move on from this toxic family where no one uses common sense or has morals right now ☹️
