But I do know that he has been doing alot for animal welfare & he is doing so because he cares. People who care about animals are very sensitive. I know many such people who appear to be strong from outside but cry and just canāt see an animal in pain. If I was there on hot seat in kbc and the same video was played I would have cried too. Nowadays if someone is having an emotional moment people jump in n call that person fake. Everybody is not fake. Thereās no rule men canāt cry/actor canāt cry etcā¦..
I took it personally because you said something rude about those who found the clip 'fake' and I'm one of them so....
What does it have to do with John being a man? I'd have said the same thing if it was a woman in his place. My comment was mostly about the show and it's presentation. Reality shows appeal to the emotional side of the audience ,they sensationalise things for ratings. It's not uncommon for actors to play it up a bit on such shows and that doesn't necessarily mean they're faking it in their real lives . In this clip the reel that was shown was nothing compared to the terrible things that you actually see at a shelter. If you've been going to some for a while, like John has, you've seen worse. Now if John cries like that every time he sees the slightest sign of animal abuse he has every right to, it's not in my place to police other people's emotions but the makers didn't edit it out when he broke down, they circled him and zoomed into him in a voyeuristic way. Just before he starts crying there's a pause and the sound of wind blowing like it's Kyunki saas bhi bahu thi or Devdas. Really ? The way it was edited ..with the maudlin background music and all that , was disgusting and it feels like the cause is being exploited by KBC .
Yes people can be sensitive about cruelty to animals. I'm one of them. I'm the steely 'strong' type who doesn't cry even at a funeral but I do tear up when I see animals in agony. So I'd obviously not judge anyone for being sensitive to pics or videos of abused animals. But my other problem with the clip is that it plays into this stereotype that all those of us who talk about animal rights are overcome by emotions. That we are these compassionate people who feel too much for animals. While that's true...is that it? Like you ,I've been vegetarian for years, I gave up meat ,fish and eggs when I was around 11. I get shit from relatives and friends about this. From name calling to provocation. And the idea behind all the teasing is that I'm this 'kind' person who is emotional about animals and can't help but avoid meat. Even from people who somewhat understand it , you get an "Aw' now and then. In the clip John says "Main jaanwaron se pyaar karta hoon, main rone lagta hoon" and Amitabh responds with an "Oh " in a very patronising way like he'd talk to his granddaughter. Do we talk about animal rights because we are these compassionate kind people who are generous enough to care about animals or is it mainly because we acknowledge the fact that animals are very much a part of this planet and we humans have no right to abuse them or violate their boundaries whether we feel for them or not? That we have no right to exploit the power we have over them? Reducing the problem of animal abuse to compassion and emotions is a bit like men saying "I believe in women's rights, I respect women, they're somebody's mother or daughter ". You say, wait a minute..women don't need your "respect" , women need you to stay in your place and not violate their space or their rights ,;women don't need your generosity. It's the same with animal rights, it's not merely an emotional issue, it's about acknowledging reality and understanding our responsibilities and limits as a species regardless of whether we love animals or not. It's very important to focus on that because a lot of the abuse people put animals through comes from the idea that animals have been put on this planet to make things better for humans and to serve them, and that man has some God given right over animals which makes it's okay to treat them as objects.
Again I'm not in any way putting down anyone who felt emotional after watching it , I just don't like the way it was presented. But yeah ,as I said before it's nice that he brought it up , I'm glad that he did.
