I fail to see how Katrina's item numbers are not considered vulgar

Please help me on this one. I think its biased and hypocritical to say that Katrina isnt vulgar compared to other actresses yet they are literally doing the same thing??

So what constitutes Katrina's item numbers not being vulgar then?

She is wearing revealing clothes ✅

She is surrounded by tharki men (chikni) ✅

Thumkas, chest bumps ✅

Seductively dancing ✅

Bikinis ✅

Rain or beach? ✅

I fail to see the logic being this main statement.

I see your point and it’s a very valid one. All the above mentioned prerequisites are unfortunately mandatory for a Bollywood “item song” and yes I do believe it’s time for some change and hopefully women are presented in a more aesthetic manner in the future and not objectified like that.

Having said that coming that, coming to your question since I made that comment about Kat not looking vulgar despite ticking all the above mentioned boxes. I think it’s more about expressions and how one carries the song. Kat can not and never goes overboard which I think is a plus. Also she is one actress who can pull of both cute and sexy which is a rare quality very few actresses have it. Also another fair example would be Helen ji who despite being an “item girl” (I hate this word) has given the industry some of the most iconic songs so I guess it depends upon the one performing it and her overall personality and aura.

Items numbers ka premise hi hai objectification of women chahe wo rakhi sawant kare ya vidya balan. Literally you can count on fingers decent Item numbers in pool of hundred of Item numbers. Kamli is one of them if its classified in Item numbers.

If one wants to label original Tip Tip Barsa Pani as vulgar, the new one isn't doodh ka dhoola version.

Always found Chikni Chameli to be vulgar, from the lyrics to how it's picturised. But her other songs are cool. My only problem with item songs is when they show a girl surrounded by 100s of men.

She wasn't being seductive in the original song. She was literally breast-humping Akshay Kumar. Which is vulgar ultra pro max.

One more thing I’d like to add it’s funny how people think everything from the 90s was some sort of Amrit from heaven completely flawless. While it’s a fact that most of the content back then was very regressive, demeaning and vulgar. So this in comparison looks better because nowadays people might object upon such content which is good. So the makers have become more cautious but still there is a long long way to go. I miss the Guru Dutt era and actresses like Madhubala and Waheeda Rehman who were presented with utmost grace and respect I think that’s what the new gen needs to aspire for not 90s Raveena or even this Katrina( better in comparison but still not there)
