Pankaj Tripati as Shah Jahan. I think Bhumi Pednekar has the acting chops for the role but the age gap would likely look odd on screen.

I am not sure if you are aware that Pankaj is in his early 40s, younger than Hrithik.

Yeah, I saw on wiki that Pankaj is 45 & Bhumi is 32, while Shah Jahan & Mumtaz had an age gap of one year. So, I thought the pairing might come across as odd on the screen.

Mumtaz should be played someone like Ashnoor Kaur or some other popular 16-17 years old and Shah Jehan by some popular kid in the block, were they not like 14 and 15 years old when they got engaged.

First Bharat Bala wanted to make a feature film but he later decided to make a documentary film where there was only one character Mumtaz Mahal played by Aishwarya Rai.

Akbar Khan made a film Taj Mahal but the film was so B grade. It was a disaster. Nobody even remembers that film.

Ben Kingsley wanted to produce the film and act as old Shah Jahan with Aishwarya playing Mumtaz but he found no financer from Bollywood to jointly co produce the film. Even Ash said she read a brief narration from Kingsley and agreed to be part of it but it never happened.

The Shah Jahan Mumtaz story needs to be told in a way Ashutosh showed Akbar and Jodha's love story. Just replace the character's names and change screenplay. Give some dance mujras. Few war scenes. You will get Taj Mahal.

Anil Kapoor should play Old Shah Jahan

Fawad Khan should play young Shah Jahan

Bollywood doesn't have any current pretty heroine to play Mumtaz. A new actress should play Mumtaz's role.
