So...where should I start from?
Let me just say that no character of this show makes any sense. These people don't know how to do anything when it comes to actual writing. There is zero creatinve and originality. Zero. And I am including all extra Virakhi scenes and extra SaiRat scenes. Because creativity doesn't just means adding extra thing, it means understanding and showing the repercussions of those scenes too. It doesn't matter what different thing they show, they just don't understand how these things might or might not affect characters and cause their personality development.
Trust me, this is not a rant post. I am not just saying it only to turn my back on this after few episodes. But, the makers of this serial don't know how to write a good storyline and not only that, they are insulting the art of story writing itself. They are not the first person to do it, I will give them that. ITV is full of serials like these, but the problem is that this show is a remake. So, if you wanted to do a complete remake then why didn't you keep the characters same too? And now if you did change them then why aren't you accepting that certain scenes need to be changed to? It's like they think that the character's initial personality doesn't play any role in the story and we can just make them do whatever we want and then use mental health or complex human personality as explanation.
And I too tried to give them all the benefit of the doubt. I tried to sketch the characters, to understand their mindset, how various factor have affected them, and just why they are reacting the way they are. But I can't do that anymore.
There is one truth that needs to be out. No matter how much we want them to, how much we fantasize them to be, the characters are not multi-dimensional or layered or complex, they are inconsistent. And inconistency doesn't represent variation in human behaviour. It just shows poor writing. The reason why I wanted to say this is because I don't want them to be praised even in the slightest manner. I don't want them to have the satisfaction that they have developed and handled beautiful characters when they clearly haven't, when there are actual people out their who did but just never got enough praise.
As I read this I realise that it might be offensive to those who genuinely like this serial and it's characters. I have said it before too, and I will say this again, you do you. This is for entertainment and if you are entertained then it's completely fine (a bit of a countering statement, i know). But I am saying this for all those who might feel like human nature is this damaged. It is damaged, I know. But just because humans are diverse in their thoughts and mindset doesn't mean that every kind of behaviour can be justified. Complexity of humans is something painfully beautiful at times, but there is still a line which separates the right and the wrong. Just because something might be explainable, doesn't mean it is excusable. This is a mistake I have willingly done (wishful thinking maybe).
Virat's actions are completely in cotnrast with his personality. Sai's repetitive words are totally unrealistic. The hurt is shown, but never for the right thing. They show her getting upset because of Virat's behaviour and words which shows that she might not be as emotionally and mentally strong as she says, but never show her suffering any post trauma related to Jagtap's incidence. Now, we might say that Vriat is much closer to her. But Jagtap isn't just someone whk harrassed her, he is the reason her Aaba is dead. But these thoughts are never shown to cross her mind. In fact, no thoughts are shown to cross her mind. Virat is hurt, but for absolutely no reason. There is absolutely zero reaso for him to be this hurt, this angry right now. Why is he hurt? Because Sai said that their marriage isn't a real one and is a deal? Because Sai isn't accepting her love for him? Or is it because she isn't actually in love with him? Which one is it?
Even if she isn't in love with him, then what? He is hurt, I get it. Why angry? Existence of her love is not an obligation just because his does. Just because he fell in love with her doesn't mean that she has to too. So what if she fell in love with someone else? So what if there was actually something going on between her and Ajinkya or her and Aniket? She is in no way bound to this marriage. Nor is he.
The main differnece between Virat and Sai was that Virat understood the power which words have. He knew just how destructive they can be when uttered at the wrong time. Whereas Sai just knew how to speak the truth. The one positive impact these two were supposed to have on each other was for Virat to learn to say the harsh truth when necessary and for Sai to understand when to keep her mouth shut. But neither of these things seem to happen. In fact something entirely else did. Their characters completely changed. How is it that Virat who was always supposed to be the emotionally mature and understanding one, not only between him and Sai but also among the entire Chavan household, not understand the impact his words and actions might have on Sai? And how does Sai, who always gave importance to words, is unable to give even an ounce of benefit of doubt when Virat repeatedly tells her that he is over Pakhi?
I get that there might have been worse serials in the history of ITV, but this is one which I watch, so things that are shown here do affect me. And now, I refuse to give this serial praises it has proved itself to be unworthy of. There are actual people out their who have their works left unpraised and underrated because serials like this are getting so much importance. However, if you feel like watching this serial, the it is compeltely fine too, because again this is just a serial. But as someone who loves to write, and for whom the characters and their personality arc are important, this serial is now getting offensive for me.
I really hope I was able to bring out my thoughts clearly. And if I have in any way offended anyone then I am sorry. It wasn't intended in any way. Also, this post was not written keeping any particular person in mind, just purely my view.
P.S: This is not a hate post for any particular character. But actually a hate post for the makers who believe that they can show anything they want, and who clearly don't respect the art of story telling.
