I wouldn't leave valuables around for them to steal. If they stole food or some petty thing I'd ignore it regardless of how good they are at cooking. If I can afford a cook it means I'm better off compared to a lot of people , so I should be aware of the fact that some go through a lot of vulnerability that makes them tempted to steal. Not ideal but shaming them and confronting them is not a good idea as long as it's nothing expensive that they took . Keep your stuff locked away. I ve seen YouTube videos of cooks eating food while cooking or shoving chapatis into their blouses eery now and then. People say terrible things underneath. But I don't think ruining their lives for good over a few rotis or whatever is worth it.

If they keep doing it over and over I ll bring it up and fire them .
