They are no more archaic than Akbar, that's what people are not realizing. Growing up in Pakistan my bestie's brothers were named Taha, Talha and Taimur. Jehangir is same category, very common Muslim name

Exactly. Why would you choose a deliberately controversial name? If they wanted a Muslim name, there are plenty out there that don't have negative connotations. It's your own child that will get burdened by it in this era. And frankly, after such a loaded name for the first child, it wouldn't have hurt to move towards the more Hindu/Christian side for the second child since they are supposed to be a secular couple.

They are just asking to be trolled and knew exactly what was going to happen.

How did Saif - Amrita kids get their name - Sara and Ibrahim? I agree they are muslim names but non controversial. 👍🏼

But, with Bebo, they name their sons as Taimur and Jehangir so that many people will troll their kids because nowadays, people loose patience and get angry on any reason.

ibrahim is a ruler AND the name of a Muslim prophet. How is that more problematic than Jehangir?

He was not named after the terrorists became terror in the world. If any of your cousins name his kid Laden now, that shows whom does he support.

#1 - As far as giving only muslim name goes - I think its parent's choice. Also I think being nawabs they have titles, like "shehzadi/shehzada".. so there is a chance they have to be muslims. (Even in royalty, even where we have evidence that Mugal wives were free to practice her own religion - the havan kunds and structure of Jodha's palace especially.. they had separate Islamic names too). #2 Weird and problematic.

Yeah, the Pataudis are truly as fake as it gets. They are not ancient nawabs or anything. The title was given to them by the British for being loyalists. They were sucking up to the The Raj when other Indians were fighting in the Independence struggle. 😆

On a personal level, they can give their kids Muslim names. Even if Kareena converted, that's their business and doesn't affect anyone else. But from a more general viewpoint, I don't think it's right to erase the wife/mother's identity in their children especially if you want to be seen as liberal and secular. There isn't anything progressive about this.

Lastly, being celebrities and then naming kids after conquerers is a very public jab. It is just insulting to the public they serve and make money from. See, if their first kid was Jehangir, I think the controversy would have been a lot less. But after already having Taimur and then do it again shows intent. They knew what they were doing and what the reactions were going to be. I don't think it can be passed off as 'oh it was just a nice sounding name' because nobody sensible would pull this twice unless they were making a statement on purpose.

I know Akbar was a ruler, the name is not a problem, this is like Gwyneth naming her kid apple or whatever Elon Musk named their kid, maybe not to that level..... why not reveal the name earlier instead of using the name as a publicity tool for her book?

fhere will always be criminals who continue to commit crimes. Who's a bigger terrorist, Ted Bundy? Bin Laden? Richard Ramirez? What about the man who raped Nibhaya? Or the man that shot thousands in Las Vegas? How many names will we boycott? Or is the terrorist criteria reserved only for Muslims?

Is the problem that it's the name of a ruler? Coz Asoka is a ruler

Is the problem that the name has committed crimes, because I don't think historically he was notorious

There are many other rulers who didn't kill Indians, why not Reza Shah, why Taimur? It's like someone's brother naming his kid after that person's rapist's name.

Didn't Asoka kill Indians? Somehow I think nobody would have minded that.

But Pakistan and India are different countries. What would be considered appropriate there would not be in India. Pakistans won't have an issue with someone who killed thousands of 'kafirs' in India. Pakistan literally has missiles named Ghauri and Babur, named after other conquerers, made with the intent to be used on India.

Akbar was a mughal leader too but he was well liked in India so naming a kid after him wouldn't be seen badly.
