But yet, you are the one who brought religion into this thread. The others were just talking about keeping a non controversial Muslim name because Taimur and Jehangir bring in bad memories- not just to Hindus BTW because they killed Muslims also with the same heartlessness.

Those days, partition had just happened, so it was considered wise to de-Islamicize names in order to have a wider appeal.

Pre-partition, the likes of Noor Jahan and Suraiya (with very Muslim sounding names) were the biggest stars, they then transitioned over to Pakistani cinema after 1947.

Waheeda Rehman was told to change her name too but she refused, you can see her retelling the tale somewhere in this interview:

Taimour and Jehangir are common Muslim names here in Canada. People here don't care what some conquerors did a few hundred years ago and name their kids simply because they have nice meanings. No one bats an eye anywhere else in the world. Jehangir's real name was Nur, maybe people shouldn't be naming their kids Noor then? (Unless there is another Jehangir that I am forgetting).

Celebrities especially in the west have given their kids some really ridiculous names including one that can't even be pronounced because it's a whole bunch of symbols. I feel sorry for those kid but at the end though, it's not something that concerns me. Anyways, I guess if it's such a huge issue for people in India then their celebrities might want to think twice.

Aryan and Suhana are both Hindu names, AbRam is muslim name I guess.....

I know attention hungry Kareena did it to make news, but I don't see any problem with the name either. Emperor Akbar's son Jahangir was not controversial, as Timur Lang was.

Kareena is 3/4 Hindu, Saif is 1/2 Hindu. The kid is more Hindu than Muslim though :P
