Was Sanju simply a big-budget PR exercise?

Just finished watching this movie and, geez, you'd think Sanjay Dutt was the next Dalai Lama or something.

If this guy is an angel, as has been depicted in the movie, then I'm Godzilla.

Why was it such a huge hit?

It was a well made movie with good performances. People don't give a shit if it's factual or not.

People generally love to poke their noses in other people's past. Yahaan toh ek bad-boy ke past pe movie hi bana di... It had to be successful!

Bit of both. They knew a Sanjay Dutt biopic would earn big money. Raju and Co. also wanted to whitewash his image.

It was a win-win.

It was not a classic Raju Hirani movie in terms of entertainment or story telling, but it was an entertaining movie.

I know IF loves to call Ranbir's performance caricature, but IMO it was phenomenal performance, especially when Sanju enters the Munna Bhai phase.

Ranbir was exceptionally good in that movie ❤️ He deserved that best actor award.

Sanju was Raju Hirani's fanboy ode to Sanjay Dutt
