Umm.....in the actual novel he wasn't present in Paro's marriage though. He regretted sending the letter & went to check if the post was already sent out. When he arrived at his hometown, Paro's marriage was already done & she had left. He next saw her during his father's funeral.

This Dev coming to Paro's marriage & asking her to run away with him and then carrying her doli is SLB's "creative input" 😆

He might be a tad too much for giving up everything after a bad decision but that makes for a good drama. Devdas is somebody you love to watch on screen but would never want him in your life.

Paro was not just a love interest. They were like "do jism ek jaan".

In an ideal world, Devdas needed councelling after Paro got married😆 and a rehab too

As for sympathizing with the character, to a certain extent yes.. his one impulsive decision cost him his life.. and he went on a self destructive mode.. he had no one to guide him except for Chunni Babu and we all know how that turned out😆

He needed help but there was no one to help him so yup, one could sympathize with him in that regard
