Naa I wouldn't recommend. Definitely not worth the money. I went for a family friend's parents' 40th anniversary party so they paid for it. There were a lot of items taken directly from Masterchef India contestants (and a few of them didn't even have credit given).

No. I don't go Brampton's way much. Only when I'm attending functions or visiting a family friend. I don't know where you are located, but two Indian places that you should definitely try are Embassy Samosa King and Babu Delivery. Samosa King - try their thali or kothu roti some time. And Babu Delivery, try anything. Some of the best South Indian and Tamil food and their sweets are muah. I've never had better gujiya, jalebi, mango barfi in all of Toronto than here in my entire life so far.

We are foodies in my family, my brother especially knows all the best places but we aren't familiar with vegetarian restaurants or thali places so it would be great to know some of those. Legit the only South Indian restaurant I know is Guru Laxmi. That $9 thali truly sounds wonderful and so worth it!!!! Good to know someone who can tell me some great South Indian places as it's been so long since I experienced the cuisine.

Lol I rarely go to Brampton myself - like you it's for attending functions or visiting someone which is rare. Oh looks like these places are in Scarb/Markham. A bit of a drive for me since I am in the west but my friends are there so once COVID is proper over I will head over and check these places out with my friends. Thanks! 🤗

West? Like Etobicoke or even further?

Yeah I'm in the east so I mostly here or downtown. But downtown there aren't any good Indian places. You should check out Rusi - it's a place near Scotia Plaza. Sri Lankan food and really good as well. Or Spring Sushi near Dundas Square if you're into trying out sushi. Oh it feels so good to talk about local places with someone who understands them. 🤗

I'm a huge foodie...my family not so much. But I've slowly converted them. I've gotten them to try out Afghani, Thai, Mexican, and Italian. Now looking for a good Korean place.

Way further lol!

Downtown is mostly good for those hole in the wall Chinese and Arabic places but those are a dime a dozen that it gets real confusing. I usually go to the higher end places instead then like in Yorkville. Apparently, Rusi has closed down? Thank goodness I live in a city with probably the best food scene in the GTA. Looks like there are a few of us from the GTA!

Korean places I know! Head on over to Koreatown in North York. My friends and I used to go there all the time when I was in uni. We still head over there when I am in the area. We usually go to Nak Won (Korean BBQ) and right beside it upstairs is a cute little dessert place called Cafe Princess which you can check out after if you like dessert. There are also karaoke bars, bubble tea and ramen places. Loads of options. Just be careful though because you are vegetarian and you know them east Asians love their meat especially pork so there won't be many options for you. Are you vegan or just vegetarian? It was easier for me because I eat fish.

The Yellow Chlli at Dallas is nothing great either...not bad but when its a Sanjeev Kapoor's restaurant we expect something more...

Oh yeah I've eaten at Nak Won before. Had their bimbibap. SO GOOD!!! I also went to a place in Burlington once when I was working there on a contract role.

Downtown has a lot of good places if you can find them. Oh is Rusi gone? Damn. That was expected. They got all their business from King Street and the financial sector has been closed down for 16 months. I wonder what else we've lost...I should go back to work but it's still voluntary so I don't feel like traveling. 😆

Vegetarian. I don't eat fish or chicken, but I'll eat egg in my meals. Makes it a bit easier when I go for Thai, Sri Lankan, or East Asian food.

Did a chocolate tour. It was like a 3-hour tour, but I got chatting with the tour guide and learnt so much about the entire city. Then she gave me some great recommendations for local places and one brand-name place where she specifically said to just get the fondue. The fondue was definitely worth it. It was CAD$60, but damn well worth it.

Also I often do recommendations cause I'm vegetarian so sometimes it's hard to know what to eat when you're at a restaurant if they don't understand vegetarian. I kid you not...I once was told that fish was vegetarian. 🤣

No I totally understand. Happened to me multiple times. They even argued with me and tried to quote from their friends’ grand father’s grand mother being a vegetarian and eating fish and so fish is veg. There were times when I had to live on OJ and bananas while traveling. That’s why I only look for Vegan food when in doubt. They understand it better than Vegetarian.

You said you go to Afghani, what do you eat there?

Ask me. This is the only topic in this forum (apart from drooling on handsome men) where I’m an expert. As a vegetarian you can eat

  • Ashak with chikpea sauce (vegetarian dumplings)
  • Boloni (stuffed, pan-fried flatbread) There’s three popular fillings: Kachaloo (potato), Boloni Gandana (Chives), Boloni Kadoo (Pumpkin) served best dipped in yoghurt and chutney
  • Boroni Bonjon (Famous eggplant dish)
  • Korma Kachaloo (Potato curry/gravy) served with chalaw (white rice).

Very yum. I definitely recommend 🥰

@ Bold: Have you ever had a man mansplain to you what being vegetarian means? One of my old colleagues spent half an hour explaining what I can and cannot eat. Once he was done, I just said "oh thank you I didn't know you were my stomach". I think he wanted the floor to swallow him up because just as I said that there was a lull in the restaurant and the 3 tables nearby heard us and spread the word. 😆

OMG have you never had chapli kababs? They are outstanding FF! And pure veggie.

I also love Greek/Mediterranean food.
