Tejo looked down and busied herself in playing with the ends of her Kurta. What was she to say? That suddenly in the hours she spent in a hospital, waiting on a strangers family she realised how short life really is or that she realised it could have been her in the woman’s place dying even though she had never really lived. The fact that in those hours she had figured out that she was easily disposed by those for whom she gave up her dream or that she was not happy with here she stood today.
Fateh looked at Tejo worried, she did not look herself at all. It was as if he was missing something. Stepping closer he tipped her chin up so she would look at him.
“What is the matter Tejo ji?”
“Aur kuch nahi Fateh, main thak gayi hoon, mujhe sona hain” She tried to leave but was stopped by him again.
“Tejo ji please, I am worried”
“For me? Why?” Tejo questioned
"Why matlab? Aap meri dost hain, I care about you" Fateh answered making Tejo scoff.
"Kaha tha yeh care pichle kuch din?" Tejo questioned
"Bolo na Fateh, kaha tha?" She repeated poking her finger in his chest.
"Tejo ji aap aise kyu...main dukhi tha, gussa tha isiliye..."
"Aur mera kya Fateh? Mera kya? Sapna tumhara aur Jasmine ka, Pyaar bhi tum dono ka, shaadi bhi tum dono ki, galti bhi tum dono ki phir saza mujhe kyu? mujhe kyu Fateh? Why me?" Tears begin to roll down Tejo's face as the pent up emotions from the last few days finally make their way out.
"Pata hai uss ladki ko dekh ke laga ki agar main hoti toh? Bina jiye hi mar jaati"
Tejo laughed, hysteria had over come her.
"Choddo. Mil gaya tumhe apna javaab? Main jaon sone?" Then for the first time Fateh realised how truly defeated Tejo felt. He had been so consumed by his own heart break, he was so busy wallowing in self pity that he hadn't realised the only person who truly lost in this entire situation was Tejo. The same Tejo who had gone out of her way to help him achieve his dream. For the first time he realised the depth to which she had been hurt.
What hurt him more was that he hadn't seen it on his own, she had to remind him again and again that she was hurting too, that she was more than his punching bag. This was his house, he was still surrounded by family but she is truly alone.
So he decided things were going to change. With sunrise it will be a new day and he is not going to let Tejo pay for his and Jasmine's mistake.

Tejo woke up with a splitting headache, yesterdays outburst was not her but she was not sorry for what she said. It was the truth and Fateh needed to hear it. One thing she had decided in the hospital itself is that she still loves and would continue to love her family but she would no longer be treated like a doormat.
Sliding out of bed Tejo made her way to freshen up only to abruptly stop. A steaming cup pf chai was on her bedside table beside which was a small note.
"Aap sahi thi aur main galat, I'm sorry" the note read.
Well at least someone understood. Maybe teh outburst was not something that bad after all. Stepping into the bathroom she found the floor dry... Fateh had finally dried the floor after taking a shower instead of leaving it wet!? Wow now this was something new.
Making her way into the kitchen after getting ready, Tejo much to her surprise found that all the food had already been cooked. Everything was already ready.
"Kaise laga surprise?" Fateh asked as he strolled into the kitchen
"Tumne banaya khaana?" Tejo asked instead
"Haan!" Fateh replied confidently
Tejo looked at him suspiciously "Really" she asked
"Nahi" Fateh sighed "mitran da dhaaba se mangaaya"
Tejo laughed "Careful Fateh, I could really get used to all of this"
"Koi gal na, I can do it everyday if it means you forgive me" Fateh replied
"Seriously Fateh, thank you so much. Tumne itna kuch kiya uske liye thank you. And you are already forgiven"
Fateh smiled in response "Aapko itne dino baad smile karte dekh ke bahut acha lag raha hai Tejo ji"
That is when Fateh realise what the first of the many missing pieces was; happiness.
Though it was only the beginning things had taken a turn. Not everything changed overnight, Maachi and her taunts still continued, Amrik's badtameezi was still a constant and Jasmine was still angry but two against the world is easier than fighting the world alone. One accident, one stranger and one outburst changed the entire story.
