Snored my way through Lagaan 😴. Thoroughly enjoyed the first half of Gadar and then went back to snoring in the second half. This movie is the prettiest I’ve seen Amisha look 😋
This!
She was breathtakingly beautiful. So much so, that I even failed to notice her acting (let's be honest, the lack thereof). 😆
Gadar is one of the biggest blockbusters. In terms of footfalls it's considered the 3rd best ever! Lagaan is nowhere near.
I think those that diss on Gadar in favor of Lagaan are the same ones that eat samosas with silverware 😛🙈
Gadar is not a bad movie. It's just too heavy and depressing. It really doesn't have repeat value unless you somehow enjoy depressing yourself.
Lagaan on the other hand is lighter and more fun. It packages heavy topics in an upbeat manner. You can watch it over and over again and enjoy it.

True, Lagaan is considered equal to Gadar only because it got an Oscar nomination, which just stems from Indians need of white validation.
Wow so true
Gadar appealed to masses (single screens and small towns) whereas Lagaan to city/multiplex audience. Both were enjoyable movies.
Gadar much better story and entertaining. It also touched emotional chords amongst some people. Sunny Deol came out as a super star.
Lagaan is irrational and boring. The songs are good though.

Both were kinda over rated

And Pizza ko chaaku choori se. 😂
On OT, While Gadar is a mass entertainer, Lagaan is a forever classic!

That could be one of the reasons but I believe the hype started even before that... Many big shots were praising the movie as a never before seen masterpiece, a perfect movie etc.
This Pritish Nandi article in 2001, much before the Oscar nomination, has to be seen (read) to be believed... It’s a really embarrassing read 😳

I bet even movies like Gone with the Wind, Singing in the Rain, Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments didn’t get such reviews 😛
