Chapter 9

On Monday

Shaurya called Anokhi, Gurvinder, Jasleen & Ritu in the lab!

"Ok guys, let's quickly finish the final touch ups of the model and then we need to prepare for the presentation as well!"

Everyone except Anokhi said OK!

Anokhi looked at Shaurya and nodded her head in a NO.

Shaurya royally ignored it, making Anokhi mad!

Anokhi looked at him in disbelief and thought to herself 'This is not fair, this is cheating!! Maine pehle hi kaha tha ke main presentation nahin duingi aur us waqt mujhe kaha theek hai tumhare liye partner aisa dhoond duinga jo presentation dega aur ab dekho...main koi presentation nahin deni wali!'

Shaurya noticed how Anokhi was getting irritated...he smiled to himself and thought, 'I'll make you do the presentation no matter what!'

"Ok now one by one you all do the presentation!" Shaurya instructed.

First Gurvinder gave the presentation then Jasleen and then Ritu!!

Now it was Anokhi's turn!!

"OMG I just remembered, Mr. Sharma had asked me to come for some work...I totally forgot, can I go?? Please." Anokhi made an excuse.

Shaurya understood what she was doing but he didn't say anything in front of others & let her go!!

In the evening Shaurya called Anokhi

"Hello!"

"Hello!"

"It's me, Shaurya!"

"Uhhh yyyeess sir!" Anokhi stuttered. 'Uh oh, I'm in trouble, big trouble!!' She thought to herself.

"Did you think you could get off so easily? Why don't you want to do the presentation??" Shaurya asked in frustration.

"I already told you na and you said I don't have to do it but now you are making me do the presentation! This is not fair." She said it in one go without thinking much.

Shaurya laughed at her and asked "Will you never ever give any presentation? What about when you go to college or later do some job then what will you do??"

"Umm I don't know...I will think about it when the time comes but for now you said I won't have to do it and now you are asking me to do it, this is cheating! Please, I don't want to do it! Anyway now there are 3 people who can give the presentation so there is no need for me to do it, right?" She tried to convince him.

"Hmmm ok! Since you are insisting so much. But I still think you should not hesitate and try it!! I would like it a lot if you give the presentation!!"

Listening to his plea for a minute she melted and thought she should try but then she remembered how nervous she gets...she didn't wanna just say NO to him so she came up with this...

"Ok next time pakka I will try it but not tomorrow!! Please please please...."

She said it so he does not feel sad but what she didn't know was that next time was not as far away as she thought.

On Tuesday

"Good morning!"

"Good morning Sir!"

"Model all set?"

"Yes Sir!"

"Ok, let's take it in the exhibition hall!"

Soon they reached the hall and set the model in the place they were allotted!!

All of them were busy in the exhibition and almost half the day was now over and Anokhi managed to survive without giving the presentation so far, she simply moved behind whenever someone came near their model...so the others could explain the model!!

Shaurya saw this and thought of tricking Anokhi into giving the presentation.

He came to their spot...

"It's almost lunch time, why don't you all go for lunch one by one or maybe one of you, like maybe Anokhi, can stay here and others go or something! I'll go and tell other students also!!"

"I think we should go in a group of two, otherwise one of us would have to eat alone!" Anokhi suggested.

Jasleen agreed with her and said "Yes, that is true. How about you two go first, I'll stay with Anokhi. When you guys come back, then we'll go."

Ritu & Gurvinder agreed and went for lunch!

"Thanks Jas for staying with me!!"

"No need yaar, I know you hate to eat alone! Don't worry, so do I!!"

Shaurya heard this and thought 'She is right, why should one of them have lunch alone, especially her. I didn't think about that because I wanted to see Anokhi giving the presentation, but anyway she is right!! Oh well, I have to find some other way to make her give the presentation! All the students are fine with giving presentations except Anokhi. How do I help her remove her fear?? But then again, why does it bother me so much?? Why am I always thinking so much about her??'

He pondered on the questions for a few minutes and then said to himself 'When have I ever been able to answer this question?? Forget it Shaurya, just forget it.' He shook his head thinking 'Will I ever be able to answer this?'

Soon the whole day passed and Anokhi survived without giving the presentation!! She was happy but Shaurya was sad that he couldn't help her with her fear!

On friday Shaurya found out that 3 projects from the school were selected for State level Science and Technology Fair and ofcourse one of them was Anokhi's!!

Shaurya called Anokhi, Gurvinder, Ritu and Jasleen to give the good news, but he also had bad news along with it.

"Ok guys, I have good news and bad news!! The good news is your project has been selected for State level." Shaurya announced.

All 4 got happy and exclaimed "Wow really?? That's amazing!!"

They were all sooo happy to know this!! Suddenly, Anokhi went quiet as she remembered that there is bad news too.

"What's the bad news?"Anokhi asked.

"Well the bad news is that only two students are allowed to accompany each project'' He said with a sad face!

All 4 looked at each other sadly.

Jasleen - "Sir I only helped a little, so I don't have to go!!"

Ritu - "Me too sir! And anyway, me and Jas are not even computer science students. Plus Gurvinder and Anokhi are the ones who put all the effort in making the project."

"Are you guys sure?? Shaurya asked sadly.

Jas & Ritu - "Yes of course sir!!"

Anokhi just looked on sadly, though she understood why this decision had to be taken!!

After that Jas and Ritu left!!

"Sorry I had to do this, but I didn't have any other option!" Shaurya sadly spoke.

"Ya, it's ok we understand!!" Anokhi said while Gurvinder nodded his head in agreement.

"So now you guys have a month to prepare your presentation for the State Fair!!"

Anokhi looked at him with wide eyes and asked "I have to do it too?"

"Yes of course, didn't you promise me you will try next time!!" Shaurya casually reminded her.

Anokhi thinking 'Abhi 4 din bhi nahin hue jaan chhudaye aur phir phas gayi presentation ke pange mein.' (Just 4 days ago I saved myself from this and now again I'm stuck in the same presentation mess.)

"What happened?" Shaurya asked Anokhi, noticing she was lost in her own world.

"Nothing...I'll prepare." She irritatedly replied. Then she mumbled to herself "Do I have a choice?"

Next day when Shaurya came for tuition at Anokhi’s house he asked her to do the presentation after the class!!

"Today?"

"Yes, why not? It's only us!!"

"Uhhh not today, let me prepare first!! You should give me advance notice! By the way, is it really necessary?? I mean Gurvinder can do it, he'll be there!" Anokhi again tried to avoid it.

"Yes he can, but what if someone asks you??"

"Ummm…"

"Ok how about you start by giving me the presentation and then here and then may be in front of the class in school! You prepare today and call me tomorrow and we'll do it on the phone first!! Is that okay??" Shaurya suggested.

"Tomorrow? Oook!" Anokhi relented and shook her head in frustration, thinking 'Ye presentation to meri jaan leke rahegi, kahan phas gayi main. (This presentation will be the death of me.)

Next day evening Anokhi called Shaurya

"Hello!"

"Hello Anokhi ! I was waiting for your call only. Presentation ready?" He asked excitedly...

"Ummm not really! I don't know what to say!"

"What do you mean you don't know what to say? I don't understand...you made the model, of course you know everything about it!!" He asked confusingly.

"I mean I won't be able to do any presentation vresentation. Seeing so many people I forget everything."

"Why are you so nervous? What's the big deal?? Waise to itne aaram se itni baatein karti ho, presentation mein kya problem hai? Usi tarah bolna hi to hai!!" (You talk so much so comfortably, what's the problem in giving a presentation? You have to talk the same way.)

"Ya right, easy for you to say!! Ek minute, aapko kaise pata main zyada baatein karti huin??? Kisne kaha aapse??" (Wait, how do you know I talk so much?? Who told you this?)

Shaurya laughed and said "Nobody said anything to me."

She pouted and asked "Aap has kyun rahe ho??? Main kya sach mein zyada bolti huin??" (Why are you laughing at me?? Do I really talk so much?)

"No no, I was just saying that giving a presentation is just like talking, just imagine you are explaining someone about your project who does not know anything about it! Simple!!" Shaurya tried to calm her.

"From which angle does this look simple to you? It is so difficult for me. Would it not work if only Gurvinder does the presentation and I just stand in the background?"

"Again with this? You both need to be prepared, what if someone asks you? What will you do then?" Shaurya asked irritatedly. He was starting to lose patience.

"Ok fine, don't get mad at me, I will try."

After thinking for some time, Anokhi came up with another idea and asked Shaurya "What if I prepare the presentation just in case someone asks me, but otherwise only Gurvinder gives it, then is it okay?" She asked hoping he would agree.

Shaurya smiled hearing her and thought 'Well, at least she agreed to prepare the presentation. For now this is enough.'

Then he replied to her, "Ok first you give me the presentation, rest we will decide later."

"What do you mean we will decide the rest later??"

"I mean just give me the presentation and don't worry about the rest."

"Ok. Is it okay if I do it in a day or two??"

"Offo...fine, take two days to prepare and give me the presentation on Wednesday evening. Ok??

"Ok, done!" She smiled and thought spared for two days at least.
