I think the reactions ( not rape threats, valid emotional reactions ) of the audience were largely based on the fact that one person was ridiculed for breaking a marriage ( irrespective of her reasons ) and nobody questioned the jerk who was threatning her that he'll commit suicide. Like nobody. This is wrong DESPITE the fact that nobody knew the truth. Her maasii also didn't keep her faith in her and just pushed her. It is heart-wrenching to see all of this. When you have one character who has this misogynistic mindset ( with all consideration to his past and everything ) who is all like meine koi hints nahi diye and everything ; He told Kartik that he put colour on her when he was drunk but he didn't tell him that he told her that he wanted to protect her and put the ring on her finger ; and another character like Ishqi ( who is silent for her all reasons, all stemming from the kind of person he is or the Malhotra family is and not because of any other reason ) , as humans, we are bound to feel for a particular character in the way we did.
