After KKHH, when Karan decided to direct an ensemble family entertainer in Kabhi Khushi, Kabhie Gham, Ash was the first he went to again. “He did come to me with K3G also but then, his script went in for a change. So the character did change. I know that for sure because I know what was narrated to me and what I saw on screen eventually. Of course, Kajol was fabulous. But that also went and I could not do it.”

I couldn’t do KKHT because I was shooting for Aa Ab Laut Chalein. I was on a 40-day schedule in the US. It was Chintu uncle’s first film as a director. I’m a fan of his, and I looked up to him. I just couldn’t mess things up with him… He narrated the story (of K3G) and told me about the character, but we didn’t end up working together. We almost worked on another movie, but that too didn’t take off. He narrates stories of most of his films to me… he is family.
