Great points from all! Shaurya today was a lot less reprehensible. If love is rose colored, jealousy is indeed a green eyed monster that misinterprets and plagues the mind with distrust.
Sleeping on his bad behavior seems to have done some good to Shaurya. He kept looking for an excuse to talk to Anokhi (apologize like he later said to himself), stared at her in class trying to make eye contact, sent off her friend so that he could talk to Anokhi in private. He was pleasantly surprised to see Anokhi walk into class, his slip at her āshe is not the kind of girl to cower and runā caught Shaurya himself by surprise. His instinctive response was āthen why leave?ā. His calculated grasping at straws to keep her back by giving her that bakwas about the exams was all totally out of character for the sullen, always in control Sabarwal. Anokhi does not see his desperation in trying to hold her back at the institute.
Anokhi comes from a sheltered home, has had no crushes and has not been interested in guys. Her only goal has been to study and make a career for herself. She did not even want to get married, she told her dad that at the outset. The way her mother and sister have been treated probably hasnāt encouraged her to weave romantic dreams. She subconsciously though seems to be developing feelings for Shaurya - she is at ease with him, she berates and lectures him comfortably, he saved her from that locked room, he came with her to look for Astha, it still rankles with Anokhi that Shaurya left her in the crowd (he did not but she assumes so), she brings it up often enough that we the audience realize that it bothers the lady a bit too much, he saved her from the goons, he saved her sister, Shaurya to Anokhi has started to get special whether she realizes it or not. Even the way she half praises and half complains about him to Astha is telling.
As for Ahir, he seems harmless enough, if he is taken with Anokhi, so be it. She doesnāt see him that way, just as a gentleman and a cop in authority who does the right thing. His character does seem to be a bit overdone, letting Anokhi ride with him to look for Astha, the constant offering of chai like he has no other solid work to do, etc is kind of nonsensical for a busy ACP but the man himself is not bad so far.
Even today, Anokhi spoke her mind to Shaurya clearly and concisely. She is bright, innocent and does not understand these mind games Shaurya is engaged in, but then Shaurya himself does not comprehend what is wrong with him and why this chit of a girl incites such a strong reaction in him. His justification at the end of the episode that he was right in thinking what he did belied his āwhat the hellā when he saw Anokhi in the jeep with Ahir. He admitted as much to Anokhi that he doesnāt believe what he alleged about her and he just blurted stuff out in anger. His reaction to Anokhi sitting on the floor weeping, her rejection of his touch, his hanky/rumal, were all bewildering to Shaurya as much as it was incomprehensible to Anokhi. Letās hope the brilliant Professor figures out what it is that is wrong with him, his heart has been touched and taken away. But rough handling will not serve him any good, he needs to learn to be nice as well as caring, and who better to teach him than the upright Ms. Bhalla?
