But I do find "Deewangi Deewangi" to be atrocious. It's such a hideous song. It's only the video that makes it bearable. "All the hot boys put your hands up and say om shanti om" - REALLY??

"Ajab Si" is sweet I suppose, but it doesn't quite hit my spot.

"Dhoom Taana" again has a splendid video and luscious vocal delivery from Shreya Ghoshal but it's not something I would listen to.

"Dard-E-Disco" is an incredible track. I love what it does, technically, musically, it's innovation. But it's again not something I will put on my playlist. And it kind've gives me a headache.

"Jag Soona Soona" is very good, love anything Rahat did during that time, but if I was in that mood, I would much rather play the superior "Jaoon Kahaan" from Billu Barber which is similar but superior.

As I said, I know OSO is considered gold standard generally, but me personally it slightly misses the mark overall so I'm hoping for something spectacular with Pathan. If we get something along the lines of "Nashe Si Chadh Gayi" meets "Ghungroo" then that should seal the deal :) ❤️

agreed with your opinion , i infact liked the theme song of shaan as well it was more like ek haseena thi ek dewana tha kind ....but yeah SRK earlier hits were from Anu malik and he never worked with Anu Malik after Main Hoon Na ...i dont know why but i still had faith in Anu malik he could have given much more chances for new generation too

In my opinion they are more commercial minded than creativity oriented...thats why other than a few of their albums nothing really hits you. All u see is Vishal on Indian Idol giving the weirdest comments there are, always making promises which u know won't be fulfilled. True artists aren't like that.

Take Ajay-Atul for example, they became mainstream names much later. Even though they have done fewer albums their work hits ur heartstrings...they believe in quality over the production house, actors etc...no wonder Sairat was such a huge hit.

Also one of the songs u mentioned @bold: had a lot of inputs from Pyarelal ji of Laxmikant-Pyarelal, right from the tune to the orchestra. Thats why no other song of the album (or any other V-S song) hits u the way Dhoom Taana did.

Imo their best albums were OSO and Salaam Namastey. Yet their commercial side seems to take over their musical and creative side.

You think so?

I thought Anjaana Anjaani (Hairat is such a classic!), Sultan, Befkire and even Tiger Zinda Hai's Dil Diyaan Galla are all such solid and enduring songs

If anything I think they are underrated. They strike the right balance between commercia/modern and artistic melodies muuuuuch better than some current industry favourites like Pritam.

Their long collaboration with Sid is why they're doing this film and action movies like War and Bang Bang are more indicative of what they'll do with Pathan than OSO or even the earlier romances with Sid.

I appreciate your analysis very much.

What is the "situation" y'all are talking about regarding Vishal? I haven't seen his show - what comments? Should I google?

Music composers and singers themselves as well as lyricists are MADE to produce and perform COMMERCIAL content by the film's producer(s).

Let's take Ra.One for example. The producers of the film insisted to somehow utilise Akon into the soundtrack. SRK has been dying to "crossover" into the worldwide audience market for many years now and this was one way to capture their attention. The song was much more about that, than Vishal-Shekhar's creativity/musicality prowess.

On the same soundtrack we have the brilliant "Bhare Naina" which went by unnoticed largely, but it's such an incredible track. The use of the background voices with the haunting choir effect incorporates the sci-fi element of the film as well as portray the deep emotion of losing a loved one (side note: Kareena Kapoor performed amazing in the song too)!!!

In my view, songs like Nashe Si Chadh Gayi and Ghungroo are OUTSTANDING songs. The production on those tracks is the best I've ever heard, and I listen to a LOT of music*. So, I'd say Vishal-Shekhar are more than competent when it comes to music, innovation, creativity and making bangers.

*if anyone here uses LAST FM let me know, we can follow each other(!!!)

The ones u have listed won't be remembered down the line...none of their albums post OSO were 'wow'. Nothing iconic.

They are talented, no doubt. But their focus seems lesser on the artistic aspects of music making. Their work does lack depth, despite them giving some nice songs which is sad, they had the potential.

Pritam is a much better composer, although he overuses Arijit now. I know he has plagiarised a lot of his songs but the work he did for the Bhatt camp and Emraan will definitely be remembered and shall gradually gain more popularity than they did when they first came out...he makes melodies irrespective of the kind of project he does.

Then again, its a matter of perspective. U might enjoy the albums u listed but they are not the kind of songs I'd listen to.
