No, it is just we getting old.
Everyone feels things were better when they were young.
Jitender came in Dus Ka Dum in 2008/9 or it was 2010, whatever it is, and he was like "aaj Kal Sabri heroine ek jaisi Lagti hain yes the very '' Deepika, Katrina, Priyanka and so on'' generation seemed generic to him.
Were they generic? No.
It was just he was old, and hardly ever saw anything related to those actress, plus they were just starting.
That is also a very interesting perspective. šš¼ I agree.
I also remember how our parents used to complain about those early 2000s remixes, how our generation is ruining their old classic/favorite songs (Kaanta Laga, Tu Tu Hai Wahi, Keh Du Tumhe etc).
Though those remixes sounded good, but I remember their videos used to be scantily clad & vulgaršš¤.
So our parent also had a point then. But our generaton (kids/teens at that time) just shrugged them off.š¤
And now our generation is doing the same thing, when our childhood favorite songs are getting ruined. We're a hypocrite generation, tbhš.
Millennials generation will not be able to accept these Ananays and Saras and Jhanvis...
I also feel we're unnecessarily way too harsh on actresses, when the truth is that there is literally no good male actor (with potential) around as well.
Well they are all the same because of the background they come from. Theres nothing that sets them apart. Same people, same social circle, same locality of Mumbai.
Only Sara seems to be different because she did not really have an elitist upbringing, Amrita worked very hard for both her kids.
But I can take you to places in Bandra and you wouldn't know the difference between our B-Town girls and SoBo girls.
Previously all our heroines brought their own experiences to the industry and that made them all distinct. Not anymore.

While it's true that female actresses receive a lot more flak, they're also promoted a lot more heavily and are thrown on to this pedestal before they even start their careers. For people who would rather watch their work first and then form opinions on them, it's irritating. All the crazy hype can even be counterproductive among people who would rather root for the dark horse that comes to limelight with their talent later on.
P.S. Apart from Kartik Aryan, is there any male actor who's "new"? I can't think of any. Ranbir Kapoor doesn't count cuz he's been around for a while now and he can't stay forever 21 much to their dismay. Suraj Pancholi also doesn't count.š

There's no denying nostalgia but even objectively speaking, the current lot truly sucks. In fact, I also thought the same of Katrina and Deepika when they first started and Jeetendra is as old as my grandpa. They came along around the time Rani and Preity's careers were tapering off as they got older. Compared to them, Kat/Deepika/Sonam couldn't act to save their lives no matter how good they looked and they are still very limited even after years of polishing themselves. That was an obvious and painful standard drop.
I'll give Priyanka a separate mention cuz she started in bollywood owing to her Miss World title and has always stayed in a different league ... far, far above Kat, DPad and Sonam. Now, with Ananya, Shanaya, etc making waves, it feels like bollywood standards have dropped down another several notches and I don't think nostalgia has much to do with that. Nepotism has created this level of distrust in the industry and its ability to bring talent to the table ... there is no value put on competence or capabilities of people, these so-called "queens" ruling the roost are just mediocre people who have nothing much to offer and are in it for the short-cut and quick fame and money .... it's mind boggling to watch so many people go gaga over that.

Jitender was talking about the looks. Not acting. People find people with whom they don't interact or watch same looking.
Anyone who has seen plenty of Tara, Sara, Jahanvi, Ananya and co, will find they all have different personalities. And also looks wise, look very different. Heck even their body type is vastly different.
Yes there are things which are similar, i. e. they all haven't been good performers, rather horrendous. but than again even the likes of Priety, Rani, Kajol, Kareena, Aishwarya and so on also had forgettable starts. Actresses don't start with flying colors in India. Because it is a male oriented industry, where women need time to settle. Very few females start with a bang.. social media hype and media hype is a different ball of game, where game is attention grabbing, hence the posts and the poses in those posts are generic and similar, because if people start speaking their mind, they would start getting negative attention, and not everyone is Swara, Tapsee or especially Kangana, who will use negative attention to stay in limelight.
Have the actresses performances of recent girls been bad? Yes, it has been. If somebody says so, I don't care. Because it is truth, but when people are like, when I was young, it was better, than it is bullsh!t, because acting of top actresses in India especially during their first few years have always been either sketchy or they were not getting roles which explored their acting potential.
As for people liking them, well we can't dictate what people like.
So true.Personally I feel performance wise and overall after early 2000's we havent had anyone that interesting after Priyanka.
Deepika,Katrina,Sonam werent strong performers when they started out. However there was some sort of craze around them and they all carried themselves differently.Eg,Deepu and Sonam when they debuted in 2009,there was so much of craze around their looks without knowing how they would act.And who can forget that kwk 2010 episode with both of them and what happened afterwardsššKatrina was a private person and there was a hint of mysteriousness about her which made her look more desirable.Eventhough they all started becoming dependent on PR's after a few years and seem dull from then.
Also their styles are fab. They had their unique strengths.
Then came Aloo,Pari,Shraddha but then now Aloo is miles ahead of them and is directly compared to actresses 5 years senior to her.She is a good actress but there is no fun when all good projects goes to only an actress and that was the start of the idk..??something seriously went a bit off from there
Ab toh first of all its mostly starkids and all this overpromotion by bolly camps kills all the enthusiasm. You genuinely dont feel like rooting for anyone, they all seem so polished. That rawness is missing somewhere along. Also today sm is way more prevelant and there is no sort of curiosity about actresses because hey you just need to follow them on insta where they post literally everyday.
Though most prolly next decade we will have posts saying sara, jahnvi and ananya were tad better than the current crop that timeš
I actually thought it was the previous generation that looked similar and acted similarly as well in public. Kareena was maybe a little too bitchy, Kat a little too private but overall the group of ladies behaved in a similar fashion.
I am not sure about this generation yet.
They are!!!
Firstly, acting today is more about visibility and presence on social media rather than a dedication to the craft itself.. The need for visibility also translates into looking good and having sms fans. That is a good thing in the sense that actors today lead a healthier lifestyle, but on the other hand it also means getting more "corrective" procedures and enhancements, which at times ends up becoming a borderline obsession. Somewhere in all these, the actors don't get time to hone their craft. Also the illusion that the social media followers represent the real life audience often leads them on till a new face, a new body replaces the older one.
Secondly, "camps" are real things in B'wood. Getting into a Dharma or a YRF camp is more important than the quest to learn and improvise the craft continuously. The scamper to the top is guaranteed (at least temporarily) . Hence, it is an achievement to be invited to "Koffee" and Poo is the role model even for someone as intelligent as Sara. Where is the need to "learn" the craft when there is a chance of getting handpicked and "curated" with a little influence, appropriate network and right contacts?
