Udta Punjab (2016)

Guys, what is your review of Udta Punjab (2016)?

For me, the movie was too much to take. It was not the drugs issue which haunted me, but the incessant abuse of Alia Bhatt's character which was terribly disturbing. In the larger context of things, Udta Punjab for me was about abuse - and it was extremely dark and depressing. Overall, a well-intentioned film which showcased the reality in Punjab and took a look at the viciousness and brutality which migrants have to face, especially women.

I remember I almost walked out of the theatre when Alia Bhatt's character was shown abused again and again. It was just beyond my viewing capacity.

Choppy, indulgent screenplay ruined things a bit for me as well.

But overall, definitely worth a watch.

Thought it was epic when I watched it back then.

Was a really unique movie in Bollywood's world. Didn't like the Mexican climax, but overall, was a good movie with strong performances.

I loved Alia and Shahid in it. Alia's best performance.

loved the movie, it was so dark but shahid was so hilarious too providing some relief in the dark subject

and kareena was so ethereal

yeah her story definitely haunted me. Such a brilliant movie though. I loved it. It is so good. They did so many things successfully in the movie.

Created a commercial dark film that showcased a very real issue ☑

Kept it grounded and real while featuring some of the biggest names ☑

Also successfully launched an unlikely newcomer ☑

Took the story just far enough to give it that commercial flavor ☑

Took so many depressing tales and still made it hopeful and light at the end ☑

What great music by Amit Trivedi. Like all his album this was also unique and different than other Bollywood albums ☑

Acting was fantastic ☑

This movie checked all the boxes for me. I loved it. It will always be one of my most favorite Bollywood movies

Shahid and Diljot were the highlights
