Went to watch this first day first show and the movie was an underwhelming experience. Choppy screenplay which was all over the place, half-baked storyline, and character arcs not developed enough.
Still, Deepika shone with whatever she was given. She did full justice to the character and was such a revelation, lending dignity and pathos to Malti and imbuing her with a quiet, refined, understated energy. She was absolutely the best part in an otherwise stale movie.
I cannot praise her enough for her courage to take on this role and deliver the goods in a movie which fell short of expectations and just wasn't hard-hitting enough or heart-warming enough, considering the subject it had taken on.
It could be a nice movie if made well....but it was not.
I was really looking forward to this movie because of its content....I even thought Deepika looked very convincing in the posters....but DP with her suicidal promotional stunt kinda ruined the anticipation for me.
Still went for a first day show since I had booked my ticket in advance and all I can say is that I was left a bit disappointed.
I felt the story telling was a bit messy, the timeline was very confusing and the film gave a documentary kind of vibes. I expected better script & execution. Deepika as Malti was surprisingly satisfying though. Deepika as an actress gives performances ranging from absolute disaster to average to above average & I felt Malti / Chapaak would fall in the above average category. Vikrant was very good too but....I don't know....his pairing with DP didn't impress me.
The last scene gave me chills & I liked the fact that the movie didn't take a happy ending route and rather reminded the viewers about the grave situation one last time.
Overall a case of wasted potential imo.
Also 1 year of Tanhaji 😆
I can't put my finger on it but something about the film didn't seem right, right from the trailers & the way promotions were done for the film.👎🏼
I get that "acid attacks" is a sensitive subject BUT the film seemed like a desperate attempt to make people "emotional" and gain sympathy, rather than a step to generate awareness.😵
Apart from bad screenplay, the film also had poor characterization for Malti & Vikrant's characters.🤔
Regarding the 'attack' scene in the film, it looked overly dramatic. Not sure why they chose to replay that scene 3-4 times in the film. 😕
That too, in slow-motion. That too, with a song playing in the background.🤔
It made the audiences uncomfortable, and NOT in the way makers wanted to.
The audiences were cringing & wanted the scene to get over, rather than feeling sad/angry/revolted which they should've.
Watched Uyare with same theme, and despite being a fictional story it was 10x times better than Chapaak.👏
Audiences say they want sincerity. They say they want stories with soul, with texture, with something resembling real life. And yet, when such...
Watched two films so far — Ikkis and Assi — and walked out of both with that rare feeling… unsettled, but grateful. Ikkis stayed with me. At its...
