If they show reality of what’s going in India they should be made..
If addressing social issues become anti national than its something to worry about.
Many of those things are harsh realities of India. Honest portrayals can make people aware of their privilege and make changes for to support those less fortunate. On the contrary ignoring these things just makes it worse.
I don't think it's anti-India at all. In fact, sweeping them under the rug is antinational to me. Because only enemies of the state would want people to live in darkness and ignorance.
In the last 10-15 years, there have been so many movies on how India is such a bad country. Things like how India is the rape capital of the world, one of the worst countries in Crime and Corruption, where minorities are living in fear all the time, where people poop on the street because of no toilets etc.... all bad topics have been discussed in these movies.
My question is, are these sort of movies really necessary? who is financing these movies? because a lot of people or countries which hate India, use these movies as an example to show how India is the worst country in the world, they make fun of India.
To me Bollywood is just giving the enemies what they want by making so many of these movies.
What do you think?
Movies criticising society is neccessary.
The problem in Indian cinema though is agenda and narrative. But after watching many American stuff, I came to realise it is same there. These filmmakers have certain agenda and their so called message is nothing, but a political statement.
There is nothing wrong in showing the mentality of certain people regarding rape in the country or the casteism or sexism or misogyny or homophobia or colorism and so on and on. But the thing is these things always come with a political agenda.
For example, what was the need to tell praise BJP/Modi in Toilet. So what these little things create is division among certain section. Toilet had such a good message, it was more critical of Hindu society than many of the so called liberandu movies, but that thing was lost, because media and certain section were more talking about the BJP praise part. If that BJP praise would have been avoided, than I think people could have appreciated the attempt of the movie to criticise the social issues. And the impact of that went till Padman, when Padman had nothing to do with nationalism or deshbhakti, still many people without even watching the movie, judged it based on Akki's public persona. Padman was critical of the taboo and stigma surrounding mensuration, but it all went out of the window due to Toilet 's two lines of praise of BJP.
Than there are plenty of example from opposite spectrum of politicals, lekin meh, that is useless, because opposite spectrum ke log are stubborn and blind.
There are 2 Indias. The great and the not so great.
Usually we always show the great one. Sometimes if someone shows the not so great one, I don't think that is anti-India.
As long as what is shown actually truly does happen, then it's not anti-India. It's just a part of India that you might not be aware of (or maybe hate or despise or are ashamed of...).

Yes they are, as long as the movies reiterate the fact that all these problems are prevalent only since 2014 and how they have mushroomed so much.
Before that their existence was slim none, barely present only in the marginalized sections of society...

I hope one makes a movie how farmers are getting treated by the Govt and how govt only cares for Ambanis and Adanis
P.S. these TRUE topics are anti India ? 😆 I think soon these makers will also be called Terrorists .Too much democracy
Why would not government care for Ambani and Adani? They give them funds for parties. Tata, Birlas and Goenkas used to give funds to congress government before LPG. Now every businessman and industrialist bribes the political parties.
are you one of those sensitive people who do not understand just because you criticize something doesn't mean you are anti that thing? Most of the time delving into these ugly subjects and doing self-evaluation is a sign of the fact that you are patriotic, that you want the country and society to improve. It is so much more important than the badly written, unrealistic desh bhakti movies of the past.
give me a break, so depicting the sad reality of the state in India means "enemies" are financing the movies?! How about being self reflective and self critical, India's problem with rape - misogny, sexism and gender reality is NOT fiction but FACT.In the last 10-15 years, there have been so many movies on how India is such a bad country. How long should India be sugar coated as this "happy go lucky colourful" country when every second there is a child, a teen, a young woman, an old woman, a girl, a boy, a man and whomever else being raped or sexually harassed?
Shit needs to end. Talking about real issues does not make one anti - trying to silence reason, and critics on the other hand does.

But what about India's enemies using these facts against India? to humiliate India and Indians?
I live in the west and some people from India's neighboring on purpose use these sort of movies to show the westerners how bad India is and humiliate Indians.
I am not against solving problems of India, of course they should be solved, but showing things in movies will hardly change ground realities.
