1I was just watching this video and wondered why one-sided love in BW is so romanticized.

Is it really something to be celebrated/glorified?

it’s shown as toxic and romanticised for no reason like they don’t love you ? Fine move tf on .. no reason to ruin your life for someone who doesn’t love you back
It is the perfect setting and background for any future crime.
TBH There are multiple types of portrayals of one-sided love.
1) Toxic ones as shown in films like Raanjhna, Tere Naam or even films like Darr when "love" becomes obsession and ends very badly. I absolutely hate the glorification of such kind of one-side love, because these stories are often sold as "dark or tragic love-stories". 🤢It's one thing to show flawed characters, but another thing to glorify them.
2) Plot devices as used in the first-half of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, or films like Namaste London
These kind of portrayals are slightly problematic because they send the wrong message, that you one-side love will eventually show results 🤪OR that "Love will find its way".
Now these portrayals are indeed overly-romanticized in BW.
3) Subtle & nuanced ones like Karishma in DTPH, Illeana in Barfi, or Jimmi Shergill in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai etc.
One more example would be Priyanka in Bajirao Mastani, where her marriage REGRESSED to one-sided love i.e, every married women's worst nightmare. Now these portrayals are actually much closer to reality, because these characters eventually accept their fate, and despite being the third-wheel in their stories, you strongly feel the emotions of these characters.
😆
I think it's way too much whitewashed or just made outright scary. So instead, if we see portrayals of real life one sided people, who just weep into their phones as they watch their love make Insta reels with their partners, it would be better.
The emotions aren't dealt with properly, and some amount of nuance and maturity is required.
