- Subash K Jha

One of the litigant-producers told this writer, “This lawsuit and the ensuing order from the Delhi High Court restraining the two channels from broadcasting derogatory content against our film industry is entirely due to Sid (Roy Kapur). I don’t think we would have taken action against the two channels if it wasn’t for Sid’s initiative. He personally rang up all the leading producers asking them to sign the lawsuit.”

One attempted to get Roy Kapur to speak on the revolutionary step to protect the film industry from being maligned. But he chose not to respond.

A source close to Roy Kapur said, “He took the initiative. Now he he will step back and remain quiet and let the law take its course.”

It's worked so far. It's been over a month and even Arnab (pre jail) pulled back.

In the latest hearing the court in Dehli seems to be leaning toward court orders/ regulation - if self imposed regulation continues to be ignored.

The high court issued summons to the media houses and intermediaries and listed the suit for further hearing on December 14.

It also asked senior advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing the Bennett Coleman Group, as to what is the next step if the channel does not follow self regulation.

“There needs to be some toning down. As an officer of the court, tell me what is the next step if you do not follow self regulation. What do we do about this. Your undertakings to the court does not seem to be working. All of you have to do something. It is disheartening and demoralises everyone," the high court said.

“It has to be fair reportage. Tomorrow it could be your (legal) fraternity also. You need to rise above your brief and tell me what should be done,” it said.

The high court added that people are afraid of the fourth pillar of democracy because of the power which it has and courts are the last one to interfere in this.

Jha makes up different things on different days. There was an earlier article that claimed Farhan Akhtar was the one behind the lawsuit. Now it's Vidya's SRK.

Anyway, whoever it was, good for them. Even that screaming banshee Arnab dropped the BW topic completely after the lawsuit was filed. They should show more spine in other issues too.
