Deffo not a thing in Malayali communities.
Haha ok I guess I was just assuming sorry š

Lol it is a thing in South Indian communities (Tamil, Telugu, Malayali, idk about Kannada though)...
But it has become very rare in the current generation, especially among more urban/educated groups... it is mostly seen as an old fashioned/gavaar thing today š
You are probably talking about cousin marriages which is still very much prevalent even in the urban families (just last year attended one in my own relatives). But niece marriage is almost unheard of in Telugu families. Donāt know about the other Cultural backgrounds though!
For ex, APās ex CMās son married his mamaās daughter.
Just gonna leave this bit from a BBC article here:
Cousin marriage
My āchiā to all kind of incestuous relationships still stands. On both science and morality grounds.

Cousin marriage
- In 2013 researchers published findings on cousin marriage in the Lancet: 63% of Pakistani mothers in Born in Bradford were found to be married to cousins and experienced a doubling of the risk of a baby being born with a congenital anomaly
- The risk of having a baby with birth defects, usually heart or nervous system problems, is still small but rises from 3% in the general Pakistani population to 6% among those married to blood relative
My āchiā to all kind of incestuous relationships still stands. On both science and morality grounds.
Lol. I can quote better statistics and articles about meat eating. Itās not just morally wrong but ethically and environmentally also wrong. Science has proved how detrimental it is to the health. Cousin marriages donāt even make a difference to the world but meat eating and other lifestyle choices which are being called out both on scientific as well as moral grounds, do. But people who choose to indulge in these things, would rather go around giving lectures on the things that they have no idea about. š

Looks like for some morality is indeed a choice.
This is so disgusting ewwww. Sorry no offense if people practice this!!!
In our culture, marrying your blood relatives is a complete NO. For us, we donāt even get married to people who have the same last name as us, (fathers last name and mothers maiden name), and people who have same gotras as well.
This marrying your own relatives is just š¤¢. Forget about customs and cultures, this is biologically a bad idea as this can lead to harmful genetic conditions.
